Municipal elections
Hi, I am fairly new to kelowna. Can we talk about the candidates? I have been here for over a year and intend to vote. What do U all say about the candidates running for mayor. My concerns are taxation. The homelessness..It's heartbreaking and scary all at the same time. I think we need a strong candidate that is not going to build too much on the waterfront. ( which we all share that view)Not liking the tall buildings to obstruct the view. I like the city a lot! I think it needs to stay a medium size city? Not a big city with Big city problems. The homelessness needs a solution. It's complex; as in others cities. But being a warmer climate and very accommodating to these folks is only going to bring more in............. who to vote for to deal with these issue.....?

What if those highrises start sinking from sheer weight?
Homelessness is more complex than it needs to be because there is more enabling instead of rehab and care. Such as free homes (often in the wrong locations with seniors and daycares nearby) with free drug delivery. Both taxpayers and relatives of those in need are tired, mad, bewildered at this lame approach.
More medical people are needed in appropriate medical settings, with fewer politicians and socialists involved.

I have read where Utah has had the greatest sucess with their homelssness issues. I encourage those concerned citizens to google this. Their prinicpal of "home first"has brought their homelessness population down considerably. It isn't easy as .. there seems to be 2 concerns for these folks: # what will I do with my time? #2. I am afraid to be alone? Some of the homeless that got stable homes :Still found themselves Setting up tents in their living space to truly feel at home. Others needed to sleep outdoors to quell anxiety. This has become a community issue lets all work toward "solutions?"POLITIK i agree with your enabling comment. But if u have any solutions.. I would like to hear them.

You didn't read my medical solution?
This isn't new territory, and it'll continue to get worse with population growth and more enabling. Word's out about free housing and free drugs. Keep 'em contained, huh?
Many homeless have no trouble pushing a hundred pound shopping cart and performing spiderman stunts to commit crime.
They don't want to "heal", work, or be a part of society. Why should they, when there's plenty of politicians and socialists who'll coddle them.
For the truly needy, provide healthy care, provide work paths. For the habitual criminals, jail them. For the campers, provide campground space with work projects that yield income.

Politick ... sobriety cannot be forced upon anyone They have to want it! I agree there is a ridiculous amount of coddling and enabling going on. Why would someone choose to stop using drugs and alcohol when there is little incentive to do so. And that would possibly stop the gravy train to social services
..also.They are part of the enabling.I will speak here about my own drug and booze issue. The caring professionals gave me no "wiggle room" There was no room for excuses which i had many which i truly believed were valid
There was no enabling of my disease. Today am sober and a functioning member of society because Those people cared enough to stand firm. .It truly is the frog in the pot scenerio I could not see how truly sick I had become. Denial is a huge part of addiction.8
