Love it. I have been pulling for Kennedy. However i will gladly support Schewe i suppose. It fills my ABCD criteria. I have personal reasons not to want Schewe. However. The other two choices are not for me Schewe appears to be the dark horse.
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

hey guys How accurate is this poll? See I intend to vote for Bob Schewe. for Mayor one reason among many He loves this community and will not allow building indescrimately on the water because it belongs to all of us. And 2 He has a fierce passion about the homelss issue. Needing to be adressesed. Immediately. and well into the future.. of the next wave.#3. he has a great sense of fairness.Vote Bob schewe for Mayor. Livability...affordability..Safety

Re: Mayor poll
I too would like to see more candidates for Mayor but these are the ones we have to choose from. I know exactly which two I am NOT voting for but probably not for reasons one would expect. A lot of my negativity towards them centers on distrust and a belief that they only say what they need to in order to "get in"...once there, it's all about putting in earplugs then just pushing their own agendas - often going against what I am hoping will happen. That's how we all vote, with our own gut instincts as to whether a candidate has shown, or voiced, the same visions for the City as we do.
For me, with one it's based on past history, with the other it's just a "gut" feeling about him not being much different than the other. Either way, we can't spend all our time looking at the Mayoralty candidates when there is a different direction we need to keep perhaps a closer eye on.
While the Mayor's chair would seem to be the important vote, we have to keep in mind that it is the COUNCILLORS who hold the cards and really make the decisions on whether to move forward with something or not.
The Mayor isn't really "IN CHARGE" per se, he/she is only ONE vote; only if there is a tie in Council does that one vote become the DECIDING vote.
So, it's the council candidates we REALLY need to be concerned with and that's where we are sadly lacking in candidates that tick the boxes on my particular wish list. So far there are 2 that I am voting for for sure. There are also 2 that I am absolutely not voting for so I have a lot more homework to do.

I agree with the previous poster. The councillor positions are extremely important. You only need 4 of them to have majority votes. Vote carefully.

As a resident of West Kelowna I don't follow Kelowna politics all that closely. Not just from this poll, but from what I've seen elsewhere, I sense that Colin Basran has a real battle on his hands and might well lose this election. If that's true, why is that the case? What has he done that's turned a lot of people off?

I completely agree with you dle. Two of the candidates running I don’t believe a word they are saying and believe that if either become mayor we can expect much of the same if not worse of what we’ve seen over the last four years. This vote is easy for me, I just hope more of Kelowna feels the same.

Re: Mayor poll
I have one pesky thought on Bob Shewe as Mayor......
I have liked what I have heard so far, but I've been waiting to hear more from him, kind of get a sense of how he really feels on a few more issues. More importantly I would like to see whether he has enough confidence. My spideysense can't quite tell me if he's shooting from the hip as he's very quiet. Makes me wonder why. Is he shy? Is he unsure? Just not much of a talker? Or does he just play it close to the vest?
The reason it bothers me I think is because although he has some knowledge of how the inner circle works from being in Bylaw, he has no experience at actually being on council that I know of, let alone Mayor. Since he hasn't said too much it is making me wonder if he is very tentative by nature and if so might be fair game for the councilors to schmooze him over to their side on agendas they want to move forward while he's learning the ropes. I haven't been too impressed with council's agenda for a long time and I'd like to see REAL action on a few issues.
I just wonder, as the new kid on the block to council in any capacity let alone Mayor, that he might be tempted to rely too much on their advice on certain agendas and put aside his own.
I guess I'll have to take a leap of faith....

I like Bob Schewe too. However, I also have some concern of whether he can successfully fill the Mayor's role.
I feel he might be better suited for a councillor position, although I wouldn't have too many concerns if he was actually elected for Mayor.

@ scrobins94
I went back and re-read some of the answers he has given, including the new one, question #5 on transportation.
I think he might just be a man of few words, very to the point, without a lot of jibber-jabber to cloud the response, rather than tentative. Doesn't waste words.
Some of the candidate's answers get so elaborate that you can't really see an answer....so this could be good.....

Basran - Realtor
Dyas - Insurance/ Investment Broker
Kennedy - pot store disguised as a skateboard shop
Schewe - Blue collar worker
these are our choices correct?

Re: Mayor poll
My latest take on Shewe: I have now watched his interview with Gord Vizzutti.....he definitely speaks to issues I have, and have had, with current council. He obviously isn't a "suit with a big smile" thank goodness. To me, he feels more like a no nonsense kind of guy which I feel is important - he will be able to hold his own. Most importantly he's a No Smoke & Mirrors type of person!
I was a bit concerned that the councillors might chew him up and spit him out because he hasn't said too much but I don't think that's the case anymore after watching the interview. He isn't a showman so I like that about him, he is focused and straight to the point, and I think he will find his way around with dogged determination and the fact he truly has been boots on the ground and has seen it from the inside.
We seem to have a contest going on with Basran and Dyas and to tell the truth I don't see or hear anything new with either one which means they don't impress me much!

Re: Mayor poll
I agree dle in that Basran/Dyas is simply the same product in a different suit. I too have hopes for Schewe, however I'm still not entirely sold. While an 8 minute radio/tv interview is hardly enough time to get to the meat of any real issues, I did find Bob still lacking that real solid grasp on just how to approach what limited major concerns he's noting in his platform. His comment on the TK fiasco almost makes me think he's a poster here on Cnet.
