Re: Show A little Class Already Peachlander
I am not surprised that the vote in Peachland ended in a tie. It was because three good candidates for the mayors position split the vote.
The incumbent is sad because of the result.....I bet she is. Over 1500 voters chose other candidates to vote for! Over 1500 voters do not want her as mayor. Yet she might end up mayor on “the toss of a coin “. - sounds better than a meat draw!
So even if you do end up as mrs mayor again, remember how many people voted against you.

Peachland Mayor Tie....
Choosing who wins/loses the seat for Mayor by drawing lots is a headshaker for sure....
Maybe they should co-Mayor as ONE vote (2 heads are better than one anyway)....if they are on opposing sides of an issue, THEN they could draw lots to see which of their votes gets the nod? I am sure they could both bring good ideas to the table.
They both seem like intelligent people and to have a Mayor picked by drawing straws seems pretty hokey but I can see there aren't many options for resolution.

I don't remember hearing about flipping a coin.
It's clear in the bylaw what is to be done in the event of a tie.

Have no skin in the game but to my thinking the current bylaw is a bit odd.Fancy wrote:https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/ ... lip-a-coin

I'd be more inclined to for example have a rule that states in the case of a tie the incumbent wins, considering that as a challenger your duty is to get more votes than the one you are challenging.

https://www.castanet.net/edition/news-s ... htm#240312Against the wishes of Harry Gough, a judicial recount will be held Monday in the Peachland mayoralty race.
The recount will take place at the Peachland Community Hall at 10 a.m.
Following an official verification of votes this past Monday, Gough and incumbent Cindy Fortin were deadlocked at 804 votes each.
Prior to a court hearing to determine whether a judicial recount would be granted, Gough filed an affidavit opposing such a move.
He told Madam Justice Ellen Burdett about allegations surrounding the original vote count, claiming there were discrepancies as to how the votes were handled.
"We should go back to the electorate and let them decide," Gough told the court. "I hope you will allow Peachlanders the choice."
Harry has a point. Another vote for mayor would certainly make it fair.

From Castanet:
UPDATE: 2:40 p.m.
Incumbent Cindy Fortin has been re-elected mayor of Peachland following a judicial recount.
The video of the drawing of lots:UPDATE: 2:45 p.m.
The drawing of lots ended up determining the outcome of Peachland's mayoralty race.
A judicial recount Monday had Harry Gough and Cindy Fortin still tied at 804 votes each.
At that point, Madam Justice Ellen Burdett declared the drawing of lots.
Two sheets of paper with each candidate's name on were places in a box.
Chief election officer Polly Palmer shook them up, and Burdett drew Fortin's name.
Fortin said it has been emotional time, and she's ready for the community to heal.

Re: Tie breaker
Cindy Fortin remains mayor after a judicial recount confirmed the tie. The judge drew Cindy's name out of a hat. Don't know the platforms of either candidate, but Peachland does need more development on the hill side of Beach Ave to expand the tax base. Otherwise, the town is going nowhere.

Because it's diseased. Out of curiosity, I read some posts on the "Peachland Neighbours" Facecrap page... the things that were said since Election Day. Reminds me of the witch trials in Salem a few centuries ago.Fancy wrote:Why is the town in need of "healing"??
Some Sheila was also "upset" because she didn't bother voting. Suck it up buttercup, hope you learned a lesson that every vote counts.
Congrats to the new Peachland Mayor. I for one wouldn't want that job in a million years.

I think the largest crow of all is Cindy having won strictly on a "flip of the coin" ...nothing else. She'll be under the spotlight now that the masses are aware a basic unknown would have won if coin went the other way. Why was it that close? What is wrong with what she was doing? Why? And please don't go blaming the tree hugger friends of beach thingy on this. I am not one of those people.

You really should compare this post with your first one, and let me know if you spot any hypocrisy.sixxonesixx wrote:I think the largest crow of all is Cindy having won strictly on a "flip of the coin" ...nothing else. Doesn't the truth really sting sometimes? I love the hilarious obsession with politics in Peachland. I've had my fun.
