Has a lot less to do with training and much more to do with the fact that no one in their right mind should risk inhaling the extremely harmful products off-gassing from burning vehicles, buildings etc. without a breathing apparatus. There is a reason Fire Department personnel don't engage without wearing them.

Good on the forestry crews for staying safe and doing their job - stopping the fire from spreading to the forest. There is absolutely no value in risking your life without proper personal protective equipment to save a vehicle that is already lost.

You want firefighters? Organize a local volunteer fire department. It's just common sense.
