Latest Conservative Foreign Policy
Finally, one of the major parties comes through with a foreign policy I like.
1. Conservatives would cut back on foreign aid by $1.5 billion and spend that money in Canada.
Why was Canada handing out foreign aid that was going to countries such as China, Argentina, North Korea, Syria, etc?
2. It appears the Conservatives may not push for a seat on the UN Security Council.
Scheer's comment: It's more important to me that I help Canadians get ahead than curry favour at the United Nations
3. Scheer on returning ISIS fighters: I wouldn't lift a finger to help them return to Canada.
Could it be he's looking at putting Canada first?
Could it be the Conservatives are finally listening to Canadians?

Of course CBC was quick to jump on this. As is usual, the headline is somewhat misleading.
And do you recall Trudeau giving approximately $840 million to Syria, in the middle of their civil war? Any accountability on where this money went?

OK, how about the National Post (hardly a socialist rag):
https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/baloney-meter-andrew-scheer-says-canada-sends-foreign-aid-to-rich-countries
In short, most of the money that Scheer says is going to middle/hi income countries (for which he uses a definition that no other body in the world does for income classification) is not "foreign aid", rather other committed initiatives, such as:
-nuclear monitoring (Iran)
-international treaty designed to phase out substances that damage the earth’s ozone layer (China)
-helping alleviate a famine (North Korea)
-support for refugees (Syria)
-support for endangered LGBTQ+ (Russia [also a whopping $250k])
Meanwhile, Canada already spends less on foreign aid than average (as a percentage of GDP) than other industrialized countries, and proportionately much less than the UN targets or what we did in the 1980s.

For this reason, the statement by Scheer earns a rating of “a lot of baloney” — the statement is mostly inaccurate but contains elements of truth.

This is a fantastic plan. Thank you Andrew Scheer. You are the only choice in this election, and everyone is starting to figure that out.

Yeah, to the refugee program after we helped destroy their homeland........aren't we nice?
