Scary to say this. NDP look strong in BC . They have not tanked the economy nearly as badly as I expected. They did pretty good with Corona as well. Ill never vote for the NDP however I have resolved they probably will win the election .

That said anything can happen in 16 months. Hope for the best. Plan for the worst

@InnovativeRG
John Horgan has hit a new high in net favourability at +39%, far ahead of Andrew Wilkinson (-14%) and Adam Olsen (-5%). Building on these strong results, the NDP now lead with 37% while only 29% say they would vote BC Liberal. Details here: https://hubs.ly/H0rjy_m0 #bcpoli
Who'da thunk, eh?

Good stable government. I'm an environmentalist, by inclination, but I don't like the anti-pipeline stance. Oil is dying but it's not dead. I HATE how Premier Horgan allowed the daylight savings time/standard time issue to be decided when it could be put to the electorate in a referendum at the next election, but on balance, I always trust an NDP government with our lands, natural environment, and natural resources. And the apparently HYPER-PROFESSIONAL way in which it is handling the pandemic.

All this rioting down south might help the BC Conservatives. Maybe BC will wake up and realize handouts just lead to further social decay. That is the main problem with the NDP. They just give the junkies way too much. While taxing the working class. They hate property ownership. They hate all types of freedoms.

The thing that scares me is NDP tanking the economy like in the 90s. I grew up here. It was brutal. People were either criminals or they left town.

Just like in Saskatchewan. BC's fortunes changed real fast once they punted the dipper crowd. In Sask it happened in about 3 days. Soon as the clowns were gone the province boomed. BC it took longer vut the result was the same. Boot the clowns. Watch the economy boom.

Hound, remembering the HBC 350th anniversary thread and your paddling adventure, I thought you grew up in Grand Prairie or something around there in northern Alberta.

Well I'd never call a fellow poster a dog, even one I usually disagree with!

Your earlier post on this thread was lauding the B.C. Government, even though as you said you'd never vote NDP. Over the longer haul, NDP governments have disappeared in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, so maybe you're on to something. I hope not. If it wasn't for abortion and guns, we'd all be a lot closer in our politics.

I won't be voting for for the current Gov't because of the way they handled the Covid thing. Letting Bonnie Henry call all the shots and shutting everything down without considering the consequences of that is unacceptable.

She is only looking at one aspect of it. She is not looking at all the other consequenses that lockdowns and shutdowns have. You are arguably killing more people because of all the anxiety, loss of income, failed businesses etc. that the lockdowns are creating. They should be following what S Korea is doing. S Korea is listening to their healtcare professionals but they are not letting healthcare professionals set gov't policy. Lots of testing and tracking but not shutting everything down.

You said much the same on the Coronavirus/State of Emergency thread that I read with interest and just replied to.

What I have to ask you here is, what have the other parties in B.C. been saying. The B.C. Liberals are the "Official Opposition" in our British-style parliamentary democracy. The Opposition appoints "critics" opposite government ministers. It occurs to me that I have heard little if anything in the way of criticism of Premier John H. and the NDP. In fact, the post by FlamingFingers a few items ago says that Horgan is the most popular premier in Canada right now for his handling of the Covid-19 issue. You may be a bit of an outlier??? Which is allowed; fill your boots.

I don't hate or love the NDP, but I have to be honest and admit that I personally like John Horgan.
When I hear him speak in any type of news interview, he seems to actually answer the questions asked without all the
usual stupid political speak that plagues 99% of all politicians. He has his own personal opinion and isn't afraid to speak it.
Unusual in a politician these days.

As for the B.C. Liberals, same goes, no hate or love implied. I will say, as far as Wilkinson goes, every-time he opens
his mouth on any topic, I cringe. His opinions seems to come from "anyway the wind blows" politically speaking. I haven't, even once, heard what his actual personal opinion may be. As long as he is leader, I will NEVER vote for the B.C. Liberals.

This is where the Conservatives need to focus.

All those lockdowns. Still more junkies died than Covid. Yet here the government is handing out money.

Oh THAT money laundering machine. You're saying the B.C. Liberal Party opaquely supports the money laundering insofar as it pushes up and props up real estate values? And that enough prople own real estate to make a difference in the voting results and will switch to the Libs if r.e. prices start to fall?

Tough in BC. We in the interior are always voting against our coastal overlords. Political leanings in the valley and the larger interior of BC are more closely tied to Alberta than that of the coast. Yet we get to vote against our coastal neighbours every 4 years. I wonder if there could not be some type of realignment down the road?
