Huge expansion of Evacuation Alert now includes most of Peachland:

Glen Lake Wildfire Evacuation Alert Expanded

Glen Lake Wildfire 2023

Central Okanagan, B.C. – Increased Glen Lake Wildfire behaviour has prompted a further expansion of the Evacuation Alert to encompass most of the District of Peachland.

The Glen Lake Wildfire, now burning eight kilometres from Peachland, is estimated at 763 hectares in size with windy conditions continuing to challenge fire suppression activities. Two tankers have deposited retardant lines to protect infrastructure. The Evacuation Alert for the Glen Lake Wildfire has been expanded and now includes:

All areas within the Regional District of Central Okanagan south of the Brenda Mine site, southwest of Highway 97C (Okanagan Connector) and west of Highway 97. The Alert does not include Peachland Beach Avenue neighbourhoods or the downtown area.

For more detailed alert and order information, please check the interactive map available at www.cordemergency.ca/map.

Anyone in the alert zone must be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice and be away from their property for an extended period of time.

An Evacuation Order remains in effect for recreational properties accessed off Glen Lake Forest Service Road, including:

Six (6) recreational properties on Glen Lake Forest Service Road, including 5503 Glen Lake Forest Service Road
Two (2) recreational properties at the 15/16 km mark of Glen Lake Forest Service Road

People on evacuation order should leave their properties immediately.

Emergency Operations Centre staff are working with other response agencies to manage the situation and minimize the impacts. Public safety and the safety of emergency response personnel are the primary concerns at this time.

Emergency response personnel request that the public:

Avoid the area so emergency responders can effectively perform their duties
Please only CALL 911 in case of emergency

Stupid not to put downtown on the alert. The highway is going to stop it from hitting that area?? They did Trepanier area. Does not make sense. They are watching for embers now to fall. My family said there were 16 cars up by her place near the works yard watching the fire last night. It was a steady stream of people looking, and that there was a lot of equipment being moved in.

Sorry but the above posted map includes right down to the lake.
It is not correct.
The fire is still about 30 km. away.
The lake and pumping offers a lot of downtown protection.

Here’s a closeup on the map. Just like the news release stated, the downtown & Beach Ave are not on alert.

You’re supposed to be looking at the map on the Cord Emergency site - not a screenshot that’s posted above kgcayenne’s. The link is posted. And I believe it’s 8 km away

Right on !!!!. the lake did wonders for the 2003 fires and the westsyde fires a few weeks back.!!!
If you want to measure use tool on the bottom of the map...

https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/us ... 49.7,12.0z

It measures 5 miles which is 8 km..... how ever if 30 km works... all fine with me !!

I just like to use the online tools that seem to be correct.. just saying !

Even if I was told I'm "not on alert" I'd be on Alert. I'd be watching for live embers, live ash and where all the dry parts are and getting ready for a quick "Go." I'd be ready.
