McDougall Creek wildfire
We're at the top of WK Estates and just saw a chopper fly up along the ridge above us and turn in towards rose valley reservoir. Anyone know if anything is going on? Choppers with buckets either fly down this way towards middle of town to land or are flying to drop water FROM here to somewhere... just seemed strange.

Was just out near London Drugs before coming home. Skies have cleared and the plume is VERY visible and LARGE. I call BS to 32 hectares. I think when they reevaluate it tomorrow I'll bet it's grown considerably.

Ya I'm feeling tense about this one. And not looking forward to the cold front rolling in.

McDougall Creek wildfire
https://www.castanet.net/news/West-Kelo ... wna#442026The Central Okanagan Regional District has placed 4,800 West Kelowna properties on evacuation alert due to the McDougall Creek wildfire.
Also impacted are portions of Westbank First Nation land and the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area.
An interactive map of the evacuation alert area is here.
“The BC Wildfire Service is continuing to respond to the McDougall Creek wildfire, which is estimated to be 64 hectares and is highly visible from West Kelowna and surrounding areas,” said Central Okanagan Emergency Operations late Wednesday night.
The BC Wildfire Service has now classified the fire as a “fire of note,” meaning it is “highly visible or poses a potential threat to public safety.”
The evacuation alerts are being issued in advance of forecasted gusty winds Thursday and overnight Friday, which may worsen fire conditions.
“The Emergency Operations Centre is working with other response agencies to manage the situation, however, residents of the area should be prepared to obey an evacuation order if needed,” said the regional district.
“An evaluation of the situation is underway and specific details will be released as they are confirmed. Public safety and the protection of critical infrastructure are the primary concerns at this time.”
Those under evacuation alert should back their bags and be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
Bear Creek Provincial Park is also under an evacuation alert and campers have been advised that “the area is an active wildfire zone and be ready to leave the area.”
Recreation users are asked to avoid the alert areas.
A list of Westside neighbourhoods under evacuation alert:
Bartley Road
Bear Creek Provincial Park
Pine Point
Raymer Bay
Rose Valley
Sailview Bay
Shannon Woods
Smith Creek
Tallus Ridge
Traders Cove
West Kelowna Estates
West Kelowna Industrial and Business Park
Portions of Westbank First Nation IR#9
Portions of Westbank First Nation IR#10
Portions of the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area south of Bear Creek Main Forest Service Road, including the Bear Creek Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Site
