$$$$$ - that will influence the decision. No doubt the owners are in backroom deals with the city staff to complete negotiations before the council even sees any proposal.
Here in Armstrong, we lost our golf course to a developer even though the previous owners clearly knew the property was zoned recreational and they happily paid lower taxes due to that zoning. The backroom deals were openly visible but no one would take action against the city despite pleas to the Minister of municipalities etc about deceptive moves against provincial laws. The developer has built about 5 show homes totally inappropriate to our small town and are now not selling. I expect a fire sale and bankruptcy notice anytime soon.
Money talks.... the public is ignored.

This is a real shame. If any good can come of it, perhaps it will be a wakeup call for the City to make sure to protect our green spaces in future from developers who have any inkling to destroy it. They dropped the ball in this case by rezoning it to industrial in the first place which was truly mindboggling. Let this be a lesson because once it's gone, it's gone forever.

change the zoning laws
make the course recreation property only and force a sale
this behaviour would be par for the course
pun intended

If the public is so adamant they want the course kept, then they should just buy it.

So sad that this was allowed to happen. I don't live in Kelowna, but if I did I would do my best to make sure that not one person that was on the previous council is still there. The council can still vote down vote down their development proposals. Makes you wonder if someone was paid off!!

A few years down the line, when public attention is elsewhere, the zoning will be changed again so that the developers can have their way with it. That's the way it works in Kelowna

It won't matter when they decide what to do with the property Denciti they will do whatever they want just like they did in West Kelowna

It's certainly not a green space its a golf course. Am thinking the whole 106 acres should be turned into an industrial park affording hundreds of jobs in the community and a huge cash cow in taxes for the city. Golf itself is a ridiculous game and in reality how many golf courses are really needed here in Kelowna. Just as many as there are pretentious goof balls to keep them busy I suppose.

Exactly, green space as in excessive watering required and excessive chemicals to keep it in golf course shape. And then have all that space unusable except to members or paying people. It's not green space, it's a for profit space.Baltimore wrote: ↑Dec 3rd, 2024, 11:35 am It's certainly not a green space its a golf course. Let it be developed or turn it all into actual green space. Industrial preferred for jobs and productivity.

We don't want the city to be in the golf business. Good thing this sale didn't happen.
There are other golf courses in the vicinity, including at least one affordable offering, there are options for those who can't, or don't want to, spend the high prices of fancier courses.
As to the idea of maintaining "green space", I can understand that sentiment, until you realize that golf courses are primarily monoculture lawns. Really the only thing "green" about them is the colour.

Maybe the people who don't enjoy the game of golf and its benefits should just shut their pie holes. It would be a shame to see this wonderful golf course turned into an industrial park. It's the last thing Kelowna needs. Greedy developers.

If Kelowna needs more industrial space....me thinks there are many options other than June Springs
I agree with "SHUT THE PIE HOLE!!".
COUNCIL SHOULD VOTE ANY INDUSTRIAL USAGE....DOWN

on the contrary Golf is a fools errand. For those who know 'Robin Williams " described it best. What is golf if not a punch line. I for one do not think that a 106 acre playground is in even one way better than an industrious employing and tax paying endeavor to expand the economy. All these long term positive outcomes and some people respond with. GOLF!! Give me golf! Yep. I'm laughing. Then of course the rim shot.
