The priorities do show…….new pickleball courts in Penticton, before the winter shelter was even decided on. Recreation vs life…….oh well.

people are correct, we don't need pickleball. It's a luxury, and there are legitimate local and municipal issues that require more attention and funding.
Not sure why you had to "poll" people's interest in pickleball. It's pretty clear the only proponents are the people that play, and the vast majority of people don't play. People aren't "against" basketball or tennis, but seem to be pretty vocal about pickleball. Why? Perhaps because the sport and it's participants are equally insufferable?

Pickleball is way above tennis or basketball in this area -most clubs have a huge waiting list of people (all age groups) that want to play. Is it more important than other issues eg. The highway, etc - no. But I’m pretty sure people would rather see money spent on recreational opportunities before building even more shelters that aren’t being used. There are more shelter beds than people living on the streets according to statistics - why? Because their aren’t different types of homeless shelters for the different types of homeless people.

Be careful- don't rile up the pickleballers. You're likely to receive a drive by in the middle of the night! They're a roguish lot those pickleballers.

Well done Councillor Randey Brophy, who is working hard to service the people who elected him. Those who play pickleball will generally be fitter and healthier because of it. Whatever the cost of new courts, it will be a lot less than the cost of extra medical help. And the complainers are often people who are also complaining about the health care services that they need and are getting. Pickleball is preventative health care and very good value for it (and yes I do play). Thanks Randey!

politicians get elected to represent the people
the people spoke thru the survey
what is the issue here?
does someone's 'friend' own a company that builds pickle ball courts?

I don't play {yet} but sure appreciate that someone on Council is looking out for the community! There are a LOT of people that head to Peachland to play pickleball, many from West K etc. Counc Brophy is on the right track! Better than the ludicrous amount of money being spent on a walkway from Drought hill down, which will service less than 100 ppl.Robin Hood wrote: ↑Dec 6th, 2024, 7:36 am Well done Councillor Randey Brophy, who is working hard to service the people who elected him. It's not that we don't like pickleball, it's seeing municipal funds going to luxuries instead of the basics. Like a sidewalk along Princeton. Let's see all members of Council walk from Hwy 97, up Princeton, to he Works Yard and then state their priorities - Sidewalks or Pickleball.

I agree we need more pickleball courts, but the proposed location is a poor choice. Pickleball noise is unique, to the players I simply say imagine yourself living in one of the immediately impacted houses. Ping ping ping, plus voices a few hours a day. That is why across the country previously dedicated courts ate being closed or reverted back to other less disturbing from a noise perspective, sports. In Halifax this week a decision to close courts due to noise pollution. Last year a city in Niagara Region fined by a judge for not enforcing their own noise bylaw., and the courts closed. Is this the battle our lovely community wants, and removing most of the remaining green space.
