Far too many cyclists riding in the dark, without appropriate lighting, or even reflectors , no helmets, and with a total disregard to traffic laws .. too bad we don't have a law enforcement program..

5 am at Water and Harvey it's probably a homeless person...I have seen them just stagger across the highway in full moving traffic not looking either direction to see if cars are coming. They are so out of it they have no clue were they even are...

First off- I sincerely hope the cyclist is not seriously injured.

The police need to investigate this thoroughly and determine blame. If the motorist is at fault, he needs to be charged and punished appropriately.
If the cyclist is at fault, the same thing should happen- regardless of what injuries the cyclist may have suffered.

I can't speak for cyclists in Kelowna, but here in the Lower mainland, they are simply the most dangerous thing on the roads.

Here they will move to the road to the sidewalk, go up one way streets the wrong way, go through red lights and stop signs without stopping, illegally change lanes.
Anything that you could ever imagine that would be illegal or dangerous, watch a cyclist here long enough and they will do it. And why? Because it is convenient for them to do so, and there is essentially ZERO enforcement of cycling laws.

I used to drive a bus in Vancouver and there was no one I worked with who at some point in their career hadn't either hit a cyclist or had come so close to doing it that the cyclist should have gone out and bought a lotter ticket.
And it was ALWAYS because of the unsafe behavior of the cyclist.

If cyclists in Kelowna are anything like they are in the Lower Mainland

Wow it just shows that the people commenting about this are Entitled drivers. Too many lazy people out driving places they could be walking or cycling to.

Probably an industrious bike thief or drug runner riding in their normal manner. Hope the truck driver isn't too traumatized.

I bike to/from work because I have to (no parking at the hospital), but I try really hard to stay out of peoples way and I yield to everyone- cars, scooters, pedestrians etc.. I feel like there's so much hate out there for cyclists though it's scary at times. Please just know we aren't all bad.

you are probably right.. worked in the north end, and avoided many collisions at midnight getting off work, with unlit cyclist running stop signs.. however.. the CBC daybreak team says they pedal in for their 6 am start.. bet they do it right though...

Sadly many people don't quite understand that our brains take notice of things that we don't expect, like people on bikes who aren't riding as expected. The majority of people on bikes actually do ride responsibly, like yourself, thank you. It's the minority that create a bad impression for the rest in the minds of the entitled.

I can't believe all the negative comments and assumptions about the cyclist. We don't know what happened or anything about the cyclist or truck driver in this unfortunate accident. I just hope they will both be OK.

It’s too bad that cycling seems to be the most dangerous mode of transportation these days with so many vehicles on the road , and a lot of drivers not paying attention. I hope and pray that this injured cyclist will be ok . 🙏

I would be absolutely furious if I got in trouble for hitting one of those brain dead drugged out cyclists, cuz they are completely clueless and riding their stolen bicycle out in traffic in dark clothing in the dark with no lights or reflectors . 😡

Truck and cycle accident at 5am.
Rcmp called to scene 5:20A. and of course, highway 97 shut down..
9:35 am Castanet update: road still closed ??
Fourhours+ later...how many pictures and measurements can be taken in 4 hours?
How many more do they need?
Reopening the highway should be more of a priority..
TAKE PICS, TAKE MEASUREMENTS and get the road open..4 hours? Come On.
