Re: Semi truck and cyclist crash: Kelowna RCMP
Typical serious injury/fatality traffic accident investigation takes 6 hours, following preset procedures. They get one chance to get it right, for potential use in court. They have specific officers that do that work, and they do use modern techniques, tools to speed it up. (iPad, lasers, survey tools)A10ThunderboltII wrote: ↑Dec 11th, 2024, 10:45 am Truck and cycle accident at 5am.
Rcmp called to scene 5:20A. and of course, highway 97 shut down..
9:35 am Castanet update: road still closed ??
Fourhours+ later...how many pictures and measurements can be taken in 4 hours?
How many more do they need?
Reopening the highway should be more of a priority..
TAKE PICS, TAKE MEASUREMENTS and get the road open..4 hours? Come On.

The amount of hate in peoples hearts on these articles astounds me at times. Complaining about a road closure when someone may have lost their life. Blaming cyclists when if a cyclist hits a car, it gets a dent, if a vehicle hits a cyclist they will get severely injured or die. Same type of people who will complain when the city tries to make more dedicated bike lanes to keep them seperated from traffic. Alot of you could do with some cycling or exercise, maybe it would improve your mental health and you wont spend your time writing angry comments online.

thank you for this!streetuser wrote: ↑Dec 11th, 2024, 9:55 amSadly many people don't quite understand that our brains take notice of things that we don't expect, like people on bikes who aren't riding as expected. The majority of people on bikes actually do ride responsibly, like yourself, thank you. It's the minority that create a bad impression for the rest in the minds of the entitled.jenhewlett wrote: ↑Dec 11th, 2024, 8:32 am I bike to/from work because I have to (no parking at the hospital), but I try really hard to stay out of peoples way and I yield to everyone- cars, scooters, pedestrians etc.. I feel like there's so much hate out there for cyclists though it's scary at times. Please just know we aren't all bad.

Any word on whose fault it was ? Is it safe to assume it was a person that had no lights or reflectors on his bike so therefore practically invisible when it’s pitch black outside ?

After a thorough review of the facts garnered by an 8 hour road shut down and after some months of study, the RCMP will forward their findings to Crown Counsel if there appears to have been a crime committed, also to ICBC.Hurricanehazey wrote: ↑Dec 11th, 2024, 4:14 pm Any word on whose fault it was ? There should be an answer to your question in a year or two. (Yes, seriously).

Yuup. Is it ever safe to make assumptions with little information? Usually the best way to not paint oneself in the wrong is to not say anything.Hurricanehazey wrote: ↑Dec 11th, 2024, 4:14 pm Any word on whose fault it was ? Again with the assumptions. Nothing has been reported with those details.

Well, it was confirmed on another news site that the cyclist was wanted on several outstanding warrants and upon spotting the patrol car he tried to evade the RCMP and rode right into the side of a flat deck commercial vehicle. A fine example of Karma.streetuser wrote: ↑Dec 12th, 2024, 12:55 pmAgain with the assumptions. Nothing has been reported with those details.

Still pretty sad when people see injury like that as a good outcome. Considering the reaction to the CEO shooting in NYC it's not surprising, we've become jaded and cynical in relation to our fellow humans.Anonymous123 wrote: ↑Dec 13th, 2024, 7:02 am Well, it was confirmed on another news site that the cyclist was wanted on several outstanding warrants and upon spotting the patrol car he tried to evade the RCMP and rode right into the side of a flat deck commercial vehicle.
