Re: Okanagan Sun head coach injured after struck by vehicle
The sad reality in Kelowna is that you can't step onto a crosswalk until you have actually watched any approaching vehicle come to a stop.
His injuries sound like he has a long road to recovery, I hope ICBC are going to fully compensate him and not try and lowball him whilst he's in hospital

Roadhog, that is not a sad reality that is a good safe practice in every city. You should always have your head on a swivel and expect that you could be hit at any time. The consequences of being struck as a pedestrian is too great.

Just a thought, but maybe we should expect more from the people piloting the huge chunks of metal down the road instead of putting the onus on pedestrians?
The whole point of a marked crosswalk is for it to be safe, especially for people with disabilities. This *bleep* is gonna get a ticket and be back on the road tomorrow pulling the same crap, while Mr. Miller is going to have a long road to recovery and probably have to live with this for the rest of his life.

Re: Okanagan Sun head coach injured after struck by vehicle
I was hit at 55 to 65 mph in a marked pedestrian cross walk. The green hand was illuminated and most vehicles had stopped for a red light giving me the total legal right to cross. Legally doesn't matter your life matters. I drive several types of motor vehicle. From motorcycles to sport cars including a class 1 with air brakes. The finger pointing has no value in this conversation. In my opinion only, both drivers and pedestrian have equal rights providing no laws are broken. I thought I was dieing as the impact sent me flipping over 4 lanes and landed under a bus that did not run me over.
I was seriously injured requiring 2 emergency surgeries and pain and discomfort another 45 years.
Logic tells me if you're a pedestrian walk as if the cars are out to get you, saying I had right of way doesn't mean anything if you're dead. drivers should drive thinking a pedestrian could appear from nowhere and a emergency stop is possible. Logic suggests the drivers have protection pedestrians don't so stop for pedestrian when they have right of way be aware at all times. Driving is a privilege not a right.
Everyone needs to thinking safety when out and about. The life you save may be your own!!!
Merry Christmas
