And another whine about not being able to park outside the business in question. As if people can't walk a bit. The meals there are good and I will walk the six blocks from home to get there a few times a year.

People don't realise that you'll still be walking less than if you went to a big box store like Costco or Walmart. It's a problem of perception not actual walking distance.

Why must we always complain when people try to do something nice we have become so spoiled that we cant walk 2 -3 blocks with christmas all around . I think people should know there will be inconvenience with or without a parade . If your guests having trouble walking we younger folks (by 10 years) would just drive em back to their spots , a little inconvenience once a year . When i go downtown i have to drive 3 times around the block to find a spot , and today they offer free parking in parking lots , to walk freely downtown , which i prefer it is much safer . You have to walk miles in a shopping mall and park quite away in a huge parking lot , but downtown shopping you have to be pay for parking then still walk for blocks to get all the shops all in , so whats the difference on this one day ? Lets see there bringing thousands of people downtown to walk the blocks and see all the wonderful restaurants and stores with festive spirits , no humbug here . If your guest are opposed to free parking and Christmas spirit then maybe they shouldn’t have booked there Christmas party 2 weeks before Christmas because no matter 2 weeks before Christmas is crazy . So i hope the people that go tonight have a truly magical time enjoying the festive streets of kelowna and the parade .

I also own a business and was not pleased to have no parking for our customers, we get so many call and complaints regarding the lack of parking as it is, maybe when they do this they turn the bike lanes on Ellis etc into parking?

I do not go downtown because of the lack of parking. I cannot walk the 2-4 blocks so I just don't go.

I’d be more upset if I owned the new No Frills on Gordon. The City allows developers to max out the building coverage on their properties so much so that they have to shut down the street (Lawson in this case) to park their construction materials and portable work buildings on. We couldn’t leave a little bit of room for a sidewalk and maybe a little green space? And we couldn’t clear and reopen the street to help a new business opening?

 Same here, I also realize that Kelowna's downtown core is designed for tourists and tourism not the tax paying citizens of Kelowna.

Yep. If that works for you. However, not everyone can walk for long distances. Some people don't have the luxury of getting someone to drop them off nearby and then go park the car. The whole street was shut down for the entire day including handicap parking. What are they supposed to do? There are stores and businesses who still receive deliveries on Saturdays, and food delivery services need access to the restaurants they are picking up from. Furthermore, all of those extra vehicles that would have been parked on Bernard would then be taking up other parking elsewhere.

I agree with the business owners who are upset. Bernard didn't need to be closed for the entire day.

Had I gone downtown today to find Bernard shut down, I would have turned around and left.

Yes, it's a benefit for the business that the majority of people are not mobility challenged. With a child in a wheelchair I understand that not everyone can do everything and I'm glad to help them when they need something beyond their direct abilities.

Yeah it's truly bizarre. People, do you realize how much walking you do in Costco and Walmart without realizing it?

The city don't realize that every minute a business loses customers makes or breaks a business survival. Especially in this economy. They could've kept Bernard open till 4: 30pm then get set up for the parade

Okay, actually towing companies could have benefited by this option.

If your vehicle hasn’t been moved out by 4:30pm precisely, you will find it at one of towing companies compound yard.
