Rebate comes from the taxpayers of Canada, so essentially it’s government welfare to buy an automobile.

The first Tesla I saw was driven up Vancouver Island by a lawyer and his nurse wife. Had received a big government grant to buy it and were quite happy. I thought WTH? Why did my tax dollars buy these people a car. Could the program not have been income tested? Not in liberal land I guess.

Where were all the people crying about government handouts when ice engines first hit the scene? I'll tell you where. There were no people back then who were driven by social media and misinformation like there are today. The government just said *bleep*, we're giving the oil industry MASSIVE subsidies because in the long run it's the right thing to do.
Today? Nope. Today if the government subsidizes solar power or electric vehicles you'll see the masses of whiners who are brainwashed into thinking that any energy that isn't oil related is simply left-wing, snowflake technology and we should not be spending our tax dollars subsidizing it.

Biggest waste of taxpayers dollars. From build to the end of its life cycle EV's are not better for the environment than gas powered vehicles.

About time. Silly program. Let's give taxpayers money to people who can afford to buy a new car. There is record food bank use and homeless people, but the help goes to people who already have money. Now the EV market is so askewed by government interference, who know if it is viable on its own.
