Maybe when you gut the spirit of the local community with an uninspiring urban environment of half constructed condo buildings (No one can afford), oppressive traffic, and a lack of places people can organically connect with each other (music venues, etc), this is what you get. The city has allowed big money interests to hollow out any reason for people to actually want to live there. The same soulless businesses of fastfood, and massives expanses of land occupied by car dealerships. Kelowna is ugly and makes people depressed. People who have been here for 20+ years know this all too well, the decline in quality of life here.

No surprise. People visit Kelowna, fall in love and move without taking into consideration the high standard of living. If you don't have at least 500K in the bank and a decent job offer, you cant fully experience the beauty of the Okanagan. You are only bored and miserable in Kelowna because you can not afford it. Boating, skiing, golfing, traveling, wine drinking is expensive

LOL! So true! Highway 97 is BRUTAL! 114 traffic lights, and 60 of them in the southern 180km section (Vernon to Osoyoos). That's 1 traffic light every 3 km on average for 180 km.

Oh, and 97A through Enderby is a shiny new light, slowing down traffic even more.

Kelowna has always been expensive but pays lows wages. Its kind of dream place for capitalists, a large pool of desperate workers available and willing to settle for lower wages compared to other jurisdictions.

People vote with their feet. People move to Kelowna because they would rather work for $20/hour in Kelowna than $40/hour in Fort Nelson. It's not the company's fault that people are like that. They could move to better paying jobs, but don't want to. I'm one of these people, BTW. Pretty much all of us are.

Kelownas a joke ! no city planning , all they do is build and concentrate on bike lanes..No infrastructure to support the rapid growth , this place already is grid lock at certain times , and it is only going to get worst. People come here for the water , but even that is a joke , good luck unloading and loading your boat , even if you do get your boat in the water good luck parking your truck and trailer. Give a little more time , a lot more will be bailing out of here.

Well stated.

I would also add that U-Haul isn't the be all end all of moving options. There are other places one can get a truck, and there are moving companies that many opt to use, particularly if they are getting up in age.

I'd take the whole article with a grain of salt.

Good news…I am glad people are leaving; Traffic is getting worse by the day and the city is getting too big anyway. Goodbye
