Despite B.C. having some the lowest rates of auto theft in the country, police data shows that 46,600 vehicles were broken into and 7,500 were stolen in province in 2020.
Is this to be a feel good comment or a surprise comment to awake folks... if that was the purpose why use 4 yr old data... say nothing or get more recent data... grrr all to make a news story...!

In this day and age, ANYWHERE in BC, who does something like leave a cheque book in a car?
I'm sorry, but use some common sense.
You don't leave ANYTHING of value, ever, in your car. You always lock it. You lock your doors at home, even if you are home.
Complacency in behaviours to always err on the side of caution are 90% of the time why things like this happen.
The old chestnut "I was only gone for a minute..."
I'm sorry, but don't ever trust that this kind of thing won't happen.
I'll bet that's a mistake he won't be making again.
