I for one, want a government that promises less. I want my tax dollars focused on core group programs like healthcare, education and law enforcement.
We (the taxpayers) are responsible for the deficit budgets and mushrooming overall debt and every level of government. Each election, we vote for the party that promises the biggest “gifts” that are paid for by your tax dollars and mine. The next election, same thing even when we haven’t paid for the last group of promises.
We couldn’t/wouldn’t run our personal finances like this. We shouldn’t allow our politicians to do this.o

Yes, public service under the liberal government is useless anyway.

This have and have not government system needs to be abolished
These people who are running this country are robbing the people blind
While they all get very handsome salaries and benefits and pensions
While the people suffer, seniors are living far below poverty levels especially now with the inflation crisis that this government hasn’t done enough to stop it
But why should they care, they are getting paid 4 times as much as the average taxpayer

The average Canadian politician works 3 months out of the year
Every quarter they are on paid vacation

The amount of useless committes and other non important work going on in the public service is insane. Need to end DEI committees and the like. Shrink the number of meetings and reduce the number of executives and middle management. Lots of wasted man hours.

'He called for public servants to be given clear assignments and be monitored to ensure they're completing their tasks.'

I would argue that this would not be necessary if the 'work from home' stuff was tossed.

It all sounds good until the details get implemented and then who knows what happens. Conservatives like to run minimal governments that end up being reactionary to whatever happens, and then throw the least amount of resources at it which usually doesn't get ahead of the problem. Liberals like to do somewhat the opposite but get too distracted by all the issues that need to be taken care of. I wish there was more reasoning put into governance but with the way we run elections as popularity contests we can't get the money out of the process and since we see money as the goal of everything it's a no-win situation.

What could go wrong in the work from home crowd? Protesting when “ forced “ to show up 3 days a week . I have my own example with firearms renewal certificate . I applied 4 months before expiry and received my PAL 8 months after it had expired . The liberals made me a criminal by their own failures. When enquiring about the status of my claim( several times) their phone system hung up on me due to whatever fumbling reason that my call could not be answered . To top it off no callback feature was available . I’m looking forward to Pierre cutting the lay around in my jammies crowd “working “ from home . ENOUGH !

Pierre Poilievre talking about work ...priceless.

From a guy who took a federal pension at 31 - 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝟑𝟏 !. and has NEVER had a full time job in his whole entire adult life.

Enough to make any conservative laugh.

Bring on the whataboutism's ...lmao

A few thoughts.

In some cases, governments will have better policy or service if their employees live throughout the country and have diverse experiences rather than living in a handful of cities where the government wanted to buy votes

Ultimately, remote work will lower wages. People will choose to accept lower pay for increased flexibility, or no commute, or to live somewhere cheaper. That is good for the employer (the taxpayer)

I have some concerns about managing remote workers, but I dont think it can actually get worse. Government managers arent exactly effective in the first place.

And of course the public service has become bloated and needs to be slashed

Given the fact that Trudeau established a record 37 Ministerial portfolios ( UK has 22 I think) ,he has to staff them up. But what was/ is being accomplished? Anyone that has had to deal with the federal government has to prepare for a terrible experience. Local office people are good, but once it gets above them, look out. Poorly managed and poor sets of priorities. Too much focus on identity politics, washroom policies and a terrible entitled uncooperative union .

It's not a whataboutism, but a FACT: 'who took a federal pension at 31'

He hasn't 'taken' anything.

He qualified for his MPs pension at that age, but hasn't taken a dime of it, because he's STILL an MP.
