Like fining a cash-strapped city is going to help them finance necessary infrastructure upgrades! Who thinks this is really going to help them get the job done?
As for “climate projections” they can’t accurately forecast weather a couple of weeks out what makes anyone believe they can predict what will happen next year let alone a decade or two out? (No one predicted the recent snowfall on the US south coast last week which shattered records from 1895, because if anything the “experts” predicted exactly the opposite trend—that is more heat, not more snow!)

In June 2024, Prince Rupert warned a section of the Nechako River underneath the John Hart Bridge had been contaminated by a leaking sanitary sewer line built in 1977. At the time, the city estimated it would take five months to fix the leak. City of Prince Rupert What does this picture of bridge pilings have to do with this story? The Nechako River and the John Hart Highway are about 700 kilometers east of Prince Rupert in Prince GEORGE. Teeny bit of research by the BIV reporter and an editor might have been in order. Little Prince Rupert has zero chance of ever fixing these problems without major help from the feds and the province.

Cash strapped City" you say ? Little West Kelowna taxpayers are on the hook for the next 20 years or so for our new $75 MILLION( and only somewhat functional) water plant. When it comes to water quality and sewer maintenance these days, you HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY. Our utility bills are up 300% and we just keep paying and paying..
"Rupert", you're next.

It makes no common sense to penalize a small city like Rupert. All that happens is the penalty gets passed on to taxpayers. But this is the feds talking.

And a reasonably small sewage spill does very little harm to the ocean environment, if any at all. You should seen the crud that was going into the ocean when I worked there. Tens of thousands of times bigger, and the ocean survived.
