Better get it done soon as the valves might come from the US now and could cost 25% more....

Re: Penticton council to consider $5.1M loan for valve replacement
Two years back, council started reviewing upcoming major capital projects that were approved in the 2022-2026 Financial Plan, looking at a borrowing a total of $12.9 million, with the valve fix costing approximately $5,100,000.
Shouldn't that read 3 years back? Anyways, the city knew at least 2 years back what was going to necessary. But still continued to waste money on to unnecessary projects such as bike lanes, bump outs, and painted sidewalks.
The city really needs to get its spending under control, and stop looking at the taxpayer as a cash cow.

Maybe instead of wasting money on a bike lane that money could have been used for something useful. Careless spending by city council plain and simple

Most people don't even realize that Penticton Taxpayers pay the highest per capita in Civic Taxes than any and every Community in the Okanagan. Back in the Ashton/Albas Council days they just got a handle on the tax situation and then we have a bunch of ex BCTF'ers come in after them and run the damn credit card up again!! What is it with the lefties and their inability to live within their means??

The fools on Main street haven't got a clue what they are doing. The council is being led around by the nose by overpaid city staff and employees who are running the show. Take a look at the salaries some are making and you can see why they have to justify their jobs. So they present the next big spending idea. All wrapped and I am sure in a very well presented power point. And the council who have no clue, bite every time. Bike lanes. Curbs. Extended intersections. The pier! The mayor has no other ambitions other than support of the real estate business. The others are a pack of no skills. And here we are. Ready for it? Tax increase. Or wait for it....emergency fund acquisition for the electrical surplus fund. Instead of a election to fill the missing councillor heading to her full pension, how about a election for the whole bunch.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the stuff under the streets is very important to how well Penticton functions.
Most municipalities in BC, let alone Canada, have what is called an infrastructure deficit, that is they are years and millions behind in maintenance in keeping pipes and lines functioning.
In today's world with union wages and the cost of materials, these upgrades or just basic maintenance is really expensive.
One problem is the politicians don't listen to the engineering staff when underground capital projects are required is because it's just that, underground. No one sees them or realizes the underground expense involved when they turn the taps on to water the lawn..
Put bike lanes in, beatify roundabouts, build tennis or pickleball courts, ice rink replacements.... All for the taxpaying public to see.
