It's air travel, it's winter....awfully naive if you think you're going to be on schedule

Kelowna airport is a joke. Its a small town airport trying hard to be in the big time. Kelowna has way too many scheduled flights in and out without the infrastructure to make it run efficient. We have had the same weather here for years and every year its the same blah blah blah. Get in early. Pay through the nose for parking. Drag your suitcases across the gravel and salted parking lot. Check in hours before your flight, because....well, just because. Wait in the crammed airless waiting areas. If you get through the ridiculous security gates without a strip search. Then wander outside through the gravel on the sidewalks outside to reach the plane. To sit for another hour. Yup. Joke at best.

Obvious that Penticton _ad really doesn't understand or have a clue about airport operations during winter time especially where Kelowna Airport is located. If not happy then drive or take the bus.

LOL, YLW doesn't have that many flights.

What does weather "here" have to do with delays caused by weather elsewhere?
Penticton_ad wrote: Feb 4th, 2025, 3:21 pmGet in early.
Kinda common sense, isn't it? Kind of applies to many facets in life, plan ahead a little. Not a difficult thing to do.

Don't travel much, do you?

You do understand that you have had the ability to check in with your phone or computer 24hrs before your flight for a good 20-25 years now, right? I can't even remember the last time I checked in at the airport to be honest.

If you think the gate area is bad today, you should have been there before the expansion. 1 security line that fed into a small room that was the gate. Just seats. No restaurant, no gift shop, no coffee shop, just seats. During peak times, they were processing 4 flights out of there at one time. Good times.

I remember there was a ramp rat there, worked there for years. I think he worked for Canadian. Kinda scruffy looking, light brownish hair, had a limp. Nice guy though.

Hmmm, never had a strip search before, Have had a couple of secondary screenings though. Stand in the machine, takes a mere minute.

Where is this gravel on the ramp you speak of?

Probably waiting for those passengers who had to wait to the last minute to head down to the airport, because adulting is too inconvenient for them.

I agree, your rant was indeed an entertaining read.

According to Wiki YLW is the #10 ranked airport in Canada with over 2 million passengers. Not too shabby.

IIRC, there was a small coffee/snack cart they fit in there just before the renovations.

And the customs "hall". Whenever a US or Mexico flight came in, they'd kick everyone out sitting in those couple of rows of seats just in front of the windows in the arrivals area, and pulled a barrier out of the wall to segregate the one baggage carousel (nearest the windows) and that was it.
