Sports equipment is bonkers expensive for a lot of things right now. Even to get a new pair of proper fitting hockey skates starts at $400, because they don't make the same sizing system available in 'lower tier' models. Kid's sports fees are expensive, there's competition for playing surface times on almost all evenings and weekends, and most everyone is already feeling the pinch for money and time. Seems like it's all part of the same issues that are plaguing us everywhere else. Not enough time, not enough money, too much stuff breaking, too many important things to be able to do all of them well.
