Let the fight begin. Counter with tariffs, close the border to all Americans coming north, close our border to any trucks from the US heading to Alaska, close our coastal waterways to any US vessels, military or otherwise, close all American air traffic from our skies, close all American military aircraft from patrolling over Canada’s artic, shut down any US air defense systems that are in our country, let Russia know our skies are now friendly to their military aircraft, let China know our skies are friendly to all Chinese military aircraft, shut down the importing of US made products coming into Canada and the list goes on. We need to have a long talk with Europe and other allies to come up with a plan to take Trump out….period.

I thought he was granting a 30 day reprieve to see how things go at the borders? Yeah, the border issues were just a sliver of the plan--an excuse to be able to issue these tariffs. I think he is ruining what was once a trusted relationship with our friend and ally. Canada has work to do that involves free trade within our own provinces and strengthening our relationships with our other trading partners. And spending our hard-earned dollars here instead of on US goods and travel, when possible. Team Canada, eh!

One, UBI for all Canadians now!!!
Two, close all borders now-allow no entry for any American.
Three, impose a tariff on all American Goods starting Monday.
Four, drop all Provincial sales tax on inter Canadian goods sold in Canada.
Five, Start building that 49 th Wall.
Six, do not elect Pierre Poilievre as he is a Mini trump and would sell Canada out to the USA clown.
Seven cut all resources going to the USA now ( electricity and water / oil ).
It s time for all Canadians to look after each other--drop the inter Provincial egos and let's get this country self dependent.

Eight, buy enough tents for some 50% of the population as they won't be able to afford mortgages or rent...Paige5 wrote: ↑Feb 9th, 2025, 3:36 pm One, UBI for all Canadians now!!!

The ' eight' is already happening now, I do agree with your comment to a point but these matters could be dealt with on a Provincial scale--those are the people we need to get busy.
Getting back to business on the federal scale, I totally agree.

Trump also reaffirmed that he would announce “reciprocal tariffs” —“probably Tuesday or Wednesday" — meaning that the U.S. would impose import duties on products in cases where another country has levied duties on U.S. goods.
“If they are charging us 130% and we’re charging them nothing, it’s not going to stay that way,” he told reporters.
Economics 101 :
You simply cannot have an equal trade agreement between two countries where the GDP of one is 10X the GDP of the other.
This is the first consequence of electing the least qualified person in the history of modern American politics to sit at the head of one of the largest manufacturing and producing nations in the world.
It’s become eminently clear that Donald Trump hasn’t even the elementary understanding of what tariffs are; how they work and how and when they don’t work. And this most likely is the result of he and those pulling his strings getting rid of those department heads and their most qualified aides and advisors in this second term, people that were there during previous administrations who were in place to do the heavy lifting when it came to negotiating a fare free trade agreement.
All he did in his first term was to put his signature onto these agreements. Clearly, he didn’t the,, nor does he now understand the first thing about tariffs.
The former NAFTA and its current successor, the USMCA are in essence and in fact, and agreement that includes tariffs between the parties. The tariffs that are written within these agreements are there to protect the signatories from unfair trade practices being foisted upon them
Take for instance the dairy industries in both Canada and America. Currently, America produces vastly more dairy products that it can consume itself. Without a tariff in place, the U.S. industry would dump its excess production upon the Canadian market, with the potential to decimate Canadian producers, putting them out of business. NAFTA and the USMCA had/has tariffs within it that protects Canadian producers from dumping dairy onto Canadian markets.
In the current salvo from behind the Resolute Desk, Trumps is targeting both Canada and Mexico for our steel and aluminum production. America needs more than it can produce domestically, and the difference is made up with imports that have agreements in place within acceptable terms of trade.
Recently, Trump made comment that lambasted the current terms of the trade agreement.
"I don't know who negotiated these agreement terms, but they're terrible agreements."
Who negotiated the USMCA on behalf of the United States? Who signed off on the deal?
The MAGA – mobster himself, Donald Trump.
