My heart goes out to the families and individuals affected by these monster storms. Not only are they suffering the devastation and loss but they will
—have to fight for help from their insurance companies, emboldened to deny and reduce claims by the recent elimination of consumer protections in the US
—have to wait and wait to reach any federal agency that could help them due to employee firings and program cuts
—despair of getting federal help as FEMA funds (if even available) are held by Trump for use as political weapons

Civilized societies should not heap pain on top of hardship and loss — but some readers on this site seem to support this travesty, as long as it’s not their ox being gored. So sad.
