Show me a business that can stay profitable when they must pay almost 80 grand per month for rent. No wonder the Bay failed, the business model was built on wet concrete. Times are a changing….

This is why Walmart left Orchard Park. They bought there own piece of land and now don't pay any monthly rent I have no clue how any place stays open in that mall...Tallerinstaller wrote: ↑Mar 22nd, 2025, 7:27 am Show me a business that can stay profitable when they must pay almost 80 grand per month for rent. Have you been into The Bay lately? It looks like a thrift store. Merchandising almost non-existent, display cases half empty and filled with multiples of the same item, zero selection. They stopped spending money on their stores a long time ago. Unfortunate for sure, I used to go for lunch in the copper kettle inside The Bay with my parents when I was a kid.

Paying that kind of rent, in Penticton? If its anything like this everywhere else, it just amazes me the company has lasted as long as they have. Actually they haven't really, they've been living in debt, on borrowed time for years.Tallerinstaller wrote: ↑Mar 22nd, 2025, 7:27 am Show me a business that can stay profitable when they must pay almost 80 grand per month for rent. Talk about poor management. Almost as bad Canada Post, or the liberal government.
Will Cherry Lane survive? Can it survive? To anchor store, no restaurant, a lame *bleep* food court...

I have been a customer of the Bay and noticed poor decision making in product selection. I walked through the Kelowna furniture department and noticed sofas for $3200.00 ? This is not where customers shop for high end furniture.

While it's a shame, they never stayed up to date with today's world... As for the rental prices, it's absolutely ridiculous. Daines Western Wear left the VGM and purchased property, and had a standalone store built for less than he was paying in the mall at the time. That's a pretty bad indicator right there...

To be clear, the owners of the Bay have already made their money by selling off the land their stand-alone buildings sat upon years ago. The reason they wish to keep only 6 stores open is because they are stand alone properties.
