The article says "BCLC generated $1.5 Billion in net income for the Province of which $1 Billion went to public programs and services". Where does the other $500 million go? No explanation offered for half a billion dollars in net income.

The lottery and gambling is tax on the poor. Someone wins big, everyone else willingly throws their money at a pipe dream.

The sad thing is many of those as-yet-to-be self-identified problem gamblers that lost over $4 million in Kelowna will need to access the Central Okanagan Food Bank Society services. To what extent are we ahead, as a society?

The article is a bit misleading / poorly explained. $1 billion of the $1.5 billion in BCLC net income goes to general government revenues (i.e., Consolidated Revenue Fund). $500 million is allocated to various funds, such as the fund for payments to host municipalities, the aforementioned community gaming grants, etc.

I wish Casinos had never been built because of the problems they cause.
How many people in Kelowna know of at least 4 family members or friends who have lost tremendous amounts of money due to their gambling addiction ?
Gambling causes way more problems than benefits to a community.
