are you f'n kidding me? this TFW thing is getting out of hand. there is no reason to have this at all. especially after Trudeau and his globalists illegally imported millions. I hope Pierre outright cancels TFW's. what kind of *bleep* business model are you running if you need imported workers who usually make less than minimum. or is it just greed...

It's sad. Westjet used to be a good company. Now it's a race to the bottom mentality for hiring pilots too? We're not talking about picking fruit here.

Grow the pilot talent at home in Canada. Invest in flight schools and start a massive training program for potential transport pilots who are already talented but don't have their transport license.

Have they done this? I don't know.

I do know that I'd question getting on a plane where the pilot is a TFW or DEI hire.

Westjet's quality has been cratering for years now. They used to a fun, good quality airline with local staff and great sense of humour. Currently it feels like you are on an uncomfortable cattle train with grumpy staff that struggle with basic service concepts and communications.

Who can blame the airline for needing more pilots when there's a shortage , obviously the critics never ran a business before and of course there's the union greed !

There wouldn't be a pilot shortage if they were offering a competitive salary against their US counterparts. Also, why aren't we training more pilots here instead of resorting to TFW's? It's greed alright, not on behalf of the union though, it's Westjet and their shareholders who are the greedy ones.

Gotta love the private sector and corporate cheerleaders who are for the free market and letting the market sort itself out. Only when it works in favour of the employers though. As soon as the forces of supply and demand tilt in favour of the worker they simply ask for TFW's instead of adjusting to the market.

I think Westjet will never go back to its roots with local staff and great sense of humour; good service at check in etc.

My former favourite airline is now no better than Air Canada. I wonder if the Bean counters, recent unions; and financial takeover by Onex corporation have now totally disconnected from Westjet's roots. It was fun while it lasted; but time moves on.

A good start would be to shut down all the confused humanity studies and other non essential studies with the only job possibility of a taxpayers funded payroll position.
Civil unionized positions, consultants and contractors that only serve the wasteful and useless government bureaucracy trying to stop new development and projects and are a huge hindering in growing the economy with paycheck earned jobs and sustainable competitive and profitable businesses.
The extreme lefty education system brainwashes the teens' undeveloped brains with the woke, dei and sogi globalist post modern ideology on these poor created WEF "jugends" in believing that all of societies' problem are from the colonial gen 0 site past and exploitation that included the huge destruction brought on by fossil fuel that must be stopped, including training pilots. These young recruits shame and put huge guilt on any one pursuing a career in the fossil and fossil consuming industries, hence needing TFW pilots.

This is what happens when you don't compensate your pilots to industry standards, they go elsewhere and leave vacancies faster than can be filled.

LOL. Union "greed". Good one.

Love how you always argue that if you don't like your wage, then just go elsewhere. Which is exactly what's been happening at WestJet for many years and you still think thats somehow "greed".

So which way do you want it? Local crews that demand industry equivalent wages or TFWs for less wages?
