If they would quit wasting money on expensive projects nobody wants there would be no tax increase. Can’t wait for the next election.

They also need to outlaw the AAP method for passing these projects.

It is quite obvious there is a real issue not only with the Mayor, Council and....and City Manger in managing our city pocket book seeing as our municipal property taxes have doubled in the last 5 years.....2021 2.7%....2022...5.5%....2023 6.51%....2024....6.51% and originally 2025 they said....11% but in their fine, fine money management they "managed" to shave it to 10%, oh, sorry....9.91%. Accountability? Does not look like someone is watching the purse, does it. Just sayin.

Thanks Councillor Durning for posting more information about the 2 options.
I just wanted to add that the dollar figures for "Residential Tax $ increase" are based on the average value of a single family home in Vernon, which is now $802,464.

They need to put the approval rate higher .bob9692 wrote: They also need to outlaw the AAP method for passing these projects.
"Elector assent is obtained when a majority of the votes (50%, plus 1 vote) are
in favour of the bylaw, agreement or other matter."
Should be 60% and the total number of people voting should be tied to some percentage of the number of votes cast at the last municipal election .

Well they should start looking for savings in their own back yard. Here is a good a good question DO WE GET VALUE FOR WAGES FROM OUR STAFF (I say our staff as we are the employers of any and all city of Vernon Staff)
as an example how many times do you see city vehicles driving around town with only one person in it. Then there are the work sites with 80% of the staff standing around and watching one or two people work, and then count the vehicles their could be as high as the number of people on site.
The AAP should be decided as any election by 50% plus one on the total amount of voters WHO COULD HAVE VOTED, not as they do now.
They are going to do the one thing that they want and that is to force the seniors, like myself to sell our properties to developers so they can make a bigger profit. They will also force all the lower income people out of owning a home to living in an apartment or moving.
The mayor would just love to tear down old Vernon and build ugly apartments in their place.

How much raise they are approved for themselves this time? Shouldn’t be us (tax payers) to approve how much raise that mayor should get? Mayor and city councils should get their annual review done by the taxpayers.

As JPO wrote , where is the accountability ? There isn't any ,and there is no real push back from the taxpayers so there is no pressure on council ,from deals with big business that are funded by taxpayers ,to make work projects, through to staffing conflicts, all of which are costing tax payers big dollars. If you are interested in putting pressure on council and finding out more about how your tax dollars are spent ( or wasted ! ) , email me covtaxpayers@yahoo.com
