Re: Here's why flights at YVR Airport are experiencing widespread delays
I worked many years in Vancouver tower and approach radar. These two specialties have been understaffed for years and operate somewhat normally by relying on controllers working overtime. When people are sick, or just tired of working so much, staff levels dictate reductions in traffic and this creates delays. In the tower, many are in a position to retire any time they want to.

I too was a career like this. I was given the job, on a couple of occaisions, of representing the organization at high school job fairs and was amazed to find that, despite the attraction of good salary, many kids were turned off by a career that would include night shifts and weekends.
I'm convinced that part of our health care staff shortages is due to this. And now NAVCAN. Somehow the kids have to be convinced that these jobs are worthwhile.

Yeah treating existing employees like crap is going to get more people to apply to the job when there's already a shortage of applicants that have the ability to do ATC work, give your head a shake!

WELL WELL interesting that they get media coverage to *bleep* and complain.... they do belong to a union that is maybe not doing their job.... so if you can not stand the heat get out of the kitchen is my comment .... not even worth 2 cents of coverage!!!

Where are "they" getting media coverage to "complain"? The article (and others) is nothing more than an advisory for passengers that YVR is experiencing delays and giving the reason(s) why. Good thing to know if you're flying through YVR, especially if you have a tight onward connection.
No mention of any grievances in this article or any other article I've read.

Ma’am, most of us are working 7 days a week to keep the entire system from collapsing. How many days would we have to work to make you happy?
