What the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has put this family through is senseless, cruel, and unconscionable. I hope the family wins! Read the story and learn how this will affect all B.C. farmers and especially small businesses. It trickles down to all of us.

Bunch of bureaucrats pushing their weight around. This is a big power struggle. They want to show you who's boss.

If Tory Bourque and Cortnie Fotheringham and others in their capacity as agents for C.F.I.A. cannot prove they have an oath of office to the public, and a public hazard bond to protect people harmed by overzealous agents of the state, means they have no jurisdiction to act. They are in breach of Section 122 of the Canadian Criminal Code. Breach of Trust by public officials, and must be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

... and if the Corporation C.F.I.A. has jurisdiction over this and other farms, PROVE IT.
otherwise mind your own business, and let all farmers tend their flocks like they have over the past century or more. Unbelievable.

The court conflict is over jurisdictional rights. What is being ignored in this court case is the science itself.

I spent over an hour on the phone with Dr. Pelech, an immunologist and tenured professor at UBC, and he assured me that these birds had almost certainly achieved natural immunity, that they were invaluable as SARs Covid research birds, and that the CFIA avoided even cross-examining him during the court case because his expertise would actually hurt their case. Their own "expert" was a new PhD graduate.

My point is not to make scientific claims, because I'm not a scientist. My claim is based on the fact that several UBC biology professors are saying the same thing, and that when scientific claims like this are made by proven, trustworthy professionals, it is incumbent upon the federal government to at least LOOK at the policies currently in use by the CFIA.

I am also deeply concerned at the ability of an outside bureaucracy to intrude so profoundly into the lives of our citizens, destroying decades of research and personal progress in the blink of an eye "because those are the rules."
