We spend a lot of time in Vancouver.

Never felt unsafe anywhere nor at anytime.

Unsafe. Received no threats so did not block off street with gravel trucks or whatever. Reactive now rather than proactive. We are acting like we live in 1980 when we live in21st century where criminals are released repeatedly, drug addicts are allowed to attack innocents repeatedly.
Time for real measures of obstacles at all mall retailers, obstacles at all public events on streets or accessible land. The new norm with our current laws.

Re other story on this........“That was not criminal in nature, and it did not rise to the level where mental health intervention was required."....really!!!!!!!!! Seems like it did rise to that level. Covering their butts and the city's butts.

It seems many people are falling victim to Hindsight Bias. The truth is, as long as we have free will, anyone can swerve a vehicle in any direction at any time. The fact that these types of incidents are extremely rare speaks to the safety of our communities. It's easy to come in afterwards and ask why this guy was free but there are thousands of people with varying degrees of mental health struggles and they can't all be locked up. But we want to lay blame somewhere so magically we KNEW this type of thing would happen and can look at all the security failures from the comfort of our keyboards and wonder how the city and the organizers didn't know ahead of time what we now know. They DID have barricades up, they took them down because the event was ending and vendors were preparing to leave. It's just how it worked out, and it's tragic and awful, but who does it help to throw blame around, pretending you would have done something differently?

This could happen any where any time. Of course letting delusional people wander the streets with no certainty that they are taking their meds is like playing Russian roulette but hey, this is the woke liberal 21st century.
