I've always been kind of partial to "Denise". Unless it's a boy of course then it would have to be "Denephew".
When asked what he thought of Western civilization, Mahatma Ghandi replied "I think it would be a very good idea."

I went to elementary school with a Billy Tilly.
And there was a hippy child named Oh See The Sun Rise at one place I lived in the Kootenays. We called him OhSee for short.
The worst part of odd names is that you can never buy an off-the-rack coffee mug, toothbrush, keychain or pencil with your name on it ...

Re: The worst, most humiliating baby names
The best part about having an unusual name is that you don't get given off-the-rack toothbrushes, pens, pencils, notepads, bookmarks, keychains, mugs, magnets and other "quality" items with your name on it!
(My daughter did custom design and print a notepad for me. It was unique and thus, much appreciated.)
As for awful names, I think someone's name becomes more pleasant as you get to know that person and appreciate them and their special qualities. Likewise, a name can become less appealing if it belongs to someone who does not embody the qualities you value.
Names seem to go in cycles and we tend to like what's in vogue or names we hear often. The familiar often passes unnoticed. It does not seem to matter what name is given, there is always some way to mock it--either lovingly or nastily.

It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.

I used to work at Fabricland and did the proof-reading for their card membership....making sure what was entered in was what was on the form. Let me tell ya...some off the wall names came by these eyes!

How about Daniel Loude?
I once knew a guy whose last name was Cake. He married a Patricia--who went by the name of Patty.
