I tried a product by Ortho called Creepy Crawly... it's a perimeter spray... spray it around the house where the cracks are and it seems to keep them away. Of course you have to re-spray occasionally.

Creepy Crawly's active ingredient is Pyrethrins. Pyrethrins are extracted from pyrethrum daisies. Creepy Crawly is moderately toxic to humans - avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear gloves, long pants, shoes, socks, long sleeves, a respirator and eye protection. It is also toxic to fish and frogs and to the beneficial insects (highly toxic to honeybees) that you do not want to kill. Keep children and pets away from sprayed areas until it is dry.

I'll never look at a daisy the same again... true enough gramma, it's not the safest substance on the block, but is safer when it dries and it dries fairly quickly... strangely enough, there's not even the poisonous or toxic symbol on the can.

Thanx for all the great answers, I even giggled a bit.

Today I will arm myself with the baking soda and sugar...they really take it back to the queen and she eats it, eh?

I want to stay away from any toxic sprays due to kids and animals in the house.
Although I could use it to make my husband clean the house more...heeheeheehee....clean or else...sure I'll make you breakfast :dyinglaughing:

grammafreddy wrote:You'll have ants as long as you have a queen in a nest. Eliminating the workers just makes her make more. You need to find the nest to get her as she never leaves the nest.

*shiver* I just got a flashback of Alien.

Ant traps worked here. They bring their poison little goodies back to the nest and in time they just dwindle down to nethnerness. Have you ever seen an ant dwindle? :nutzoid:
"Let there be smoke." And there was smoke. And it was gooooooood.

Hubby came home with who knows what yesterday,,,I will try that and the baking soda.

Ya know what's fun to do? Find an ant mound and disturb it with a stick. The bigger the mound, the more fun!

Seriously though..lol, I had a huge ant problem in my front yard when I owned my home in Kelowna. I was in that home for 6 years and it only grew worse each year. It started with a few mounds around the edge of my grass. I figured, no biggie, who doesn't have ants. One summer my son was cutting the lawn and called me outside. He had run over this monster mound in the middle of the front yard. Seriously, it was huge. I started to think, ok this is no longer funny. I bought that ant poisonous dust and sprinkled it all over. I should have saved my money for all the good it did. The year I put my home up for sale was the worst. I'm sure I'm being a tad melodramatic, but I felt that my entire front lawn was one huge ant home and one day I would look out my window and see that it had all caved in. If I had not of sold, I would have had to call in a professional as it was clearly out of my hands.
