Supreme Web Make-Over Contest

Post by mechanic_virus »

Twin Creek Media is giving all non-profit organisations in the Okanagan the chance to win a free $10,000 website. The winner will be determined by public voting, and the voting starts TODAY!

Considering the fact that the website for our local HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis service organisation, Living Positive Resource Centre, is an atrocious, scattered mess that is not youth friendly, has mass amounts of tiny print all packed together, is just plain ugly, does not reflect the atmosphere of the organisation, is a pain in the *bleep* to navigate, and an embarrassment to direct people to, I urge you to please vote for Living Positive Resource Centre.

It won't take long, and they need your vote!

Living Positive has fallen behind on the votes, and with only 5 days left, your help is needed!

If you haven't done so already, please click on the link above and vote 5 times for Living Positive Resource Centre. If you're feeling extra nice, you can even do it from both your home and work computers, or from multiple user accounts set up on the same computer.

Thank you!

The contest will be ending in about 10 hours. It appears Living Positive will not be winning, but thank you all anyway.

On that note, watching the results page, I noticed a few minutes ago that ABCD was getting a new vote every 7 seconds on the dot. And then it switched to every 14 seconds on the dot. It stopped for a while, but I'm going to keep checking. Seems awfully well timed to be a coincidence.

Hmmm, it seems that both ABCD and COBBS have some voters with meticulous timing, although the voters appear to favour ABCD. COBBS' voters have much longer breaks between their mini voting sprees, but if you've got patience and nothing else to do at one o'clock on a Friday morning, it's an interesting phenomena to watch.

Interesting phenomenon... such a precise timing sounds fishy.

"Twin Creek Media is pleased to announce the winners of the Supreme Web Makeover contest! Due to overwhelming support for ABCD and COBSS we have declared them both winners! All the other organizations will be contacted and offered a discounted web redesign package."

Interesting how they both had a few hundred new votes between 1:30am and 11:00am. Not to mention how many voters were online late at night and in the wee hours of the morning.

Oops, do I sound bitter?

Sorry M_V.
You sound disappointed. And a wee bit suspicious...rather than "bitter".

(Hey, maybe the sponsoring web-design company was voting for the organizations it wanted to redesign. After all in the world of business, ABCD and COBSS both make better organizations to use to show a website "product" to potential clients than an organization like Positive Living. Perhaps the contest really wasn't about helping a non-profit so much as using them for advertising purposes was it?)
It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.

Yes, I am a bit suspicious. But you could be right about the sponsoring company. After all, Vedanta Academy was disqualified for cheating fairly early in the contest, and their vote counts were nowhere near the tens of thousands as achieved by ABCD and COBBS.

Oh well, time to move on. A new website will come along somehow.
