When I was born Betty Grable's legs were insured for 1 million dollars and the world's first sustained nuclear chain reaction was produced ;-)

I was going to say Bsuds' is in the lead with his 1949

also in 1949:

First Polaroid camera sold $89.95 (NYC)

Israel's 19 month war of independence ends & Israel becomes a member of the United Nations

Lightning strikes a baseball field in Fla, kills the SS & 3rd baseman

Canadian ice hockey team beats Denmark 47-0

The Lone Ranger premiers on ABC-TV

but now NAB's 1943 takes the lead

Also in 1943:

Canadian troops enter the medieval town of Ortona after a week of battling enemy paratroopers in house to house fighting; 1,372 Canadians killed in taking Ortona and environs

Ottawa imposes severe wartime gasoline rationing of 10 gallons a month for every private car

In northern Bulgaria, farmers threaten to lie down on the tracks to prevent the deportation of Jews. Government rescinds the order to deport Northern Bulgarian Jews... Orders are given for the expulsion of all Danish Jews. Thanks to Danish underground operations, only 415 Jews are captured by the Germans. 7,000 are evacuated to Sweden.

Italy surrenders to the Allies

Withholding tax from paychecks starts

The adventure continues...

When I was young, people would ask my mom how old I was. She would respond, "Oh, he was brought home the day Kennedy was shot!"

Henceforth, I never really had a birthday. I wore the Kennedy stigmata from then on, though.
