Re: Eastern Grey Squirrel, the new terror.
Eastern Grey Squirrels are just plain nasty. They can get as big as rats, but have a worse attitude. Kind of like Gremlins, cute at first but once you feed them...
I guess that is why eastern cities have signs everywhere saying "Please do not feed squirrels".
"Beware of Greeks [Yanks] bearing gifts." The one that tried to take my bagel in Washington Square Park was not very friendly...but I guess that only applies to Greenwich Village Squirrels, and the ones from Midtown are much more classy.

In this vid I think there are squirrels eating peanuts. There is a poster who explains that peanuts are toxic to squirrels and will eventually kill them.

Come spring, our neighbour told me about a foul smell he had coming from his attic. He had someone look into it, and low and behold, a nest of squirrels, living in his attic, had been completely wiped out, hence the smell.
A few years later, National Geographic reported that peanuts are legumes and are NOT digestible for squirrels, LETHAL.
I was devastated.
Turns out, if you must feed peanuts to squirrels, make sure there roasted.
Let's hope the peanuts in the vid were roasted ones.

No one should be feeding Eastern Greys.

No, but they could be feeding 'on' them.
About time something bigger than a runt Red Squirrel showed up.
This place needs more 3 lb squirrels and 5 lb rabbits. Mmmm finger licking good

I'm not worried what I say, if they see it now or they see it later, I said it. If you don't know maybe that would hurt you, I don't know. You should know though, so you don't get hurt, so you know what side to be on when it happens.

Don't think it was top of their list of important topics.
That better?

i really don't think the extirpation and potential extinction of local species is a laughing matter.
as well, to say my name never came up is really a wild guess on your part, which i really do not appreciate, and is quite likely against forum rules.

See the greys quite often now - never saw squirrels in that area before. Doubt City Hall will do anything about it.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

Re: Eastern Grey Squirrel, the new terror.
the premier said, in her initial public statement from westside i believe, that she acknowledged the invasive species issue. this is why i was wondering if anyone knew is the topic was mentioned in the debates.
as well, the city of kelowna introduced that new 'app' a few months ago to report squirrel sightings and such.
since we are aware that bylaw officers response is complaint driven, possibly they could put their batons to use clubbing this vermin from the east.
in all my years in the okanagan i have seen one skink, one alligator lizard, no horned toads, pikas, and no caribou.
while habitat destruction is likely the greatest factor, invasive species are great contributors as well to this tragedy.
