It is indeedy ... now what are ya gonna do about them? Will you report them and try to trap them?

Well I definitely won’t be trapping them and after doing a little more research, I won’t be reporting them either.

LOL - didn't think you would. :sunshine:

Time will tell what real harm/damage (if any)these new neighbours have brought here.

I think the fact that they've been living in Stanley Park since 1909 with little to no impact on the environment or number of native species there shows that they're not going to be involved in the End of Days.

I'll take squirrels of any colour before roof rats or neweigion rats. Squirrels do help in re-forestation. They are great to watch although they will camp in you attic if you let them.

Other then that they don't bother me none!

Hope none of you are having trouble sleeping over this one! :dyinglaughing:

Apparently so. :200:

Seems that perhaps some researchers need additional funding to continue their project.
They state that the habitat in BC is not suitable for the Eastern Grey....that they can not survive in our pine/cedar/spruce forests and therefore will take over everyone's homes....huh...guess someone forgot to tell the squirrels in Stanley Park that they are not allowed to survive in that area.

( BTW researchers...although I'm sure you are the demi-gods of all things squirrely....they were introduced to BC in 1909...NOT in the 1980's as your paper states. They were actually a 'gift' from Central Park in NY so that we western folk could enjoy their fuzzy park neighbors as much as they did )

And...as ken said...I'll take squirrels of any color in my yard over rats.
If people are so worried about native songbirds...they need to worry more about racoons and domestic cats...who kill far more birds than any squirrel could ever hope to

They are different only in the tail...One has a furry tail the other doesn't .

I won't hesitate to shoot them on site.

Some 20 years ago, I fed the squirrels with unroasted peanuts, believing this would help supplement their diet during the cold Northern Ontario winter.

Come spring, our neighbour told me about a foul smell he had coming from his attic. He had someone look into it, and low and behold, a nest of squirrels, living in his attic, had been completely wiped out, hence the smell.

A few years later, National Geographic reported that peanuts are legumes and are NOT digestible for squirrels, LETHAL.

:200: I was devastated.

Turns out, if you must feed peanuts to squirrels, make sure there roasted.

Recently read (some New England rag) that squirrel is becoming the "new" meat. I suppose it would taste much like rabbit. :127:

So it's like a beauty contest for some people?
Blonde or brunette? Fat of skinny?
It's so entertaining how some people justify something with distracting change of topic.

Personally I will take a pet rat over a pet cat.
But what's that got to do with the bloody destructive grey squirrel?
(BTW what's a neweigion rat look like?)

Well, there you go... some people have such a nice way telling others "how to" do something... like how to get rid of grey squirrels. :)
