I'm not worried what I say, if they see it now or they see it later, I said it. If you don't know maybe that would hurt you, I don't know. You should know though, so you don't get hurt, so you know what side to be on when it happens.

I detest those things, they give me the creeps.
I fear too many people are not stable, responsible, ethical, or moral enough to be
allowed such things.
I have watched a couple fantastic, scenic, videos shot from one though.

We were working this summer on Mt Royal Drive and while enjoying our lunch in the backyard a drone was hovering over the property. It was a bit creepy because people were in the swimming pool.
That being said Costco is selling a drone I want to buy. It can intercept anything Bman fires at it!

The rules, which are effective immediately, mean recreational users will face a fine of up to $3,000 if drones weighing more than 250 grams are caught flying:
Higher than 90 metres.
Within 75 metres of buildings, vehicles, vessels, animals or people.
More than 500 metres away from the user.
At night, in clouds or somewhere you can't see it.
Within nine kilometres of somewhere aircraft take off or land, or a forest fire.
Without your name, address and phone number marked on the drone itself.
Over forest fires, emergency response scenes or controlled airspace.

Haven't seen one in my backyard yet but I suppose it's just a matter of time as I can imagine some won't bother reading the regulations.

Should be licensed and for commercial use only, and the license fee hefty enough that a rec user would be dissuaded.

Rules for RC planes etc have been around for years. I don't understand why drones caused such a concern if the rules were already in place. I guess maybe it's because you don't need such a large area to take off from. I have a mini... a toy really but the camera is quite amazing.

Biggest problem is some people don't follow the rules/think F the rules, chances of being caught are low.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

I wonder if these new toys will be a problem or a disturbance for birds when raising nestlings. I would be concerned about the really shy ones such as herons, crows, not so much.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Re: Current Drone Activity
A couple to times when I was walking the dog at around 8:00 pm I've seen one flying around over the lower Mission. Super long battery life. Pretty amazing technology. I started flying drones about 10 years ago when they were super archaic and had rudimentary stabilization. They tended to crash a lot. You can shoot amazing aerial footage with even a cheap one. I thought about going into commercial aerial photography but there are so many rules and regulations now I figured it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Kind of wish I had now because I would have been one of the first to enter the market.
