The Going Rate For Babysitting

Postby boxman180 » Nov 1st, 2018, 8:21 pm

What would be the going rate for babysitting by a teenager? My daughter is 17, CPR certified and is taking childcare in high school. She wants to make some extra cash to save up for college by babysitting after school and evenings.
Also my younger daughter is 12 and would like to babysit as well.

We've been paying $8/$9 for a 13-year-old ... we had a college student at $14 ... and another still in high school at $12 ... training is a good thing to start with ... being able to keep the child active and engaged is worth a couple dollars more ... and then adding on top of that knowing how to clean up the kitchen after a meal or the bathroom after a bath will make parents really happy ...

and those rates are just for a single child ...

Silly question, but shouldn't they be getting at least minimum wage?

Lol - yes, but back then going to a movie at the Paramount only cost $0.50 and a BC Tel pay phone call cost $0.10 and you could talk all day :)

Queen K is old. I heard in her times there was a thing called a "penny". It was this bronze/copper coloured thing worth about 1/5 of a nickel.

I read somewhere and I don't remember where, that babysitters were supposed to be paid whatever the minimum wage is at the time. Looks like some here are beyond that which I think is great. Don't think you want to cheap out on the person you are entrusting your children with.

Or maybe...…………………………...
