Emergency Alert

Postby Urbane » Nov 28th, 2018, 3:55 pm

Just curious . . . we had another test earlier today of our emergency alert system and at 1:55 p.m. I happened to have the tv on at the time and sure enough the alert was on there. Nothing on my iPhone though. Perhaps my iPhone is too old since I got it about two years ago and perhaps that makes it ancient. So, who got the emergency alert and who didn't?

It looks like no one cares that I didn't get the alert so I guess I could move this to the pet peeves thread!

Neither my Wife or I got the alert on our phones.

I guess if there is a real emergency we will be toast.

We'll die together. Glad to have company!

I just read that some people received two alerts while other people received no alert. So it all averages out I guess.

I was also watching TV and saw the alert at 1:55 PM, but for the 2nd time since these tests started, I didn't receive the alert on my phone. I went to the Government of Canada website, and Rogers, (my wireless provider), indeed does participate in these alerts. So why am I not getting them? Is a 2 year old Samsung too old to receive these alerts?

Not all phones are capable of receiving the emergency alert. Click on provider for list of compatible phones.

I have a 2-year-old iPhone SE (which is compatible) and haven't received the alert either time. The phone was on, it wasn't on "Do Not Disturb," and I was connected to wifi, so go figure. I really don't think it's my phone or Koodo although I emailed Koodo earlier asking them for advice.

Huh, guess I die with you guys. 2 (or 3?) year old Galaxy Grand Prime - apparently not on the list.
PLEASE use spellcheck. If that is too hard, consider installing the Grammarly (free!) app that will not only spellcheck for you (AND offer corrections!) but also make sure that your sentences are grammatically correct.

I did not receive either alerts on my Iphone, but I was on wifi both times. I'm not super techy, but I'm wondering if being on wifi is the problem. I think the advance notice said that the alert would go out to phones connected to an LTE network. So if I'm on wifi, then I'm not really using the LTE network, right?

Guess I too am going down in flames if there is a true emergency I can't see in front of me.

Nope, it is still connected to LTE. WiFi is so you don't use your data when connected. You should still get the alert.

Downside is you use your battery faster.

I'm not techy - is there a way to find out if you received the alert? I heard it and saw a message on my phone but when I picked the phone up I must have hit a button because the message disappeared. Now I can't find the message.

I got the alert message, but my phone is perpetually on silent so I didn’t know I received the alert until I was curious about it and looked.

Fancy, it might work to pull down on your screen from the top edge to see if it is there.
