Because some words are used as personal attacks. Hard to believe, I know.

We also replace censor word workarounds with
in threads that don’t carry a language warning. We have inventive posters who use barely disguised swear words to defeat the censor program.

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Seriously, that happens?

No! That can’t be true.

I would have never thought that. I hope that anytime that happens, the poster is immediately banned.

Re: Bleeping
Interesting topic.
I’m seeing this in a different light. Yes, it is frustrating when common words are automatically edited to *bleep*, especially when they are not being used in an insulting manner, or have multiple uses.
I recently sent a private message describing a breed of cat. It was a “Maine *bleep*” cat. “A what ?”
Another frustration the innocuous term “*bleep* for tat”.
Really ? We aren’t the USA with their vast television production industry that thinks nothing of showing all sorts of murder and mayhem, rapes, serial killers, mass murder, body parts and blood and galore, but bleep out any word that could possibly offend, and certainly never show a woman’s nipple.
Always get a kick out of US productions editing video of woman’s breasts even on a documentary production on woman’s breast cancer or breast surgery.
Have we caught the US snowflake bug ?
But, let’s look at something else, putting these minor frustrations and annoyances on the back burner.
Is it socially and morally responsible for a social media to allow the transmission of topics directed at convincing our citizens to conduct themselves contrary to medical advice ?
The social media phenomena is still fairly new. We see calls for social media giants like Facebook to stop the transmission of false information, such as statements by the President of the USA.
Is it OK for me to create a topic that attempts to encourage people to do something dangerous, or contrary to medical advice ?
I’ve taken a break from all the Covid-19 mask wearing threads. I’m personally sick and tired of the 90% trying to “out shout” the 10% anti maskers. I don’t think that 10% will change. Yes some are just trolls having “fun” presenting the dissenting opinion. Some I assume really believe they have a right to put others at risk. By “others” I also include the medical professionals who have to treat and care for the victims of the irresponsible selfish act of not protecting themselves and others.
Is it OK if those topics convince others to not wear protections ? OK if someone dies ?
The anti-vaccine threads, anti-mask, all perfectly fine to allow. But a “dirty” word like “tee eye tee”, must be stopped at all cost ?
Really.

Yet....flip the channel to a documentary on Africa and see Kimba and all her family walking around with everything hanging out....go figure. We have demonized nudity....we in N America are the ones that are bleeped up- not everyone else.
Some may view my politically incorrect opinions as harsh and may be offended by them. Some think political correctness will be our undoing.
