2019 F-150
I'm not really into vehicle buying and selling,so I was wondering what some of you might think on this.
I have a friend that has recently discovered that they have some health problems and they can't make it in the long run as they will not have the income to carry out the payment obligations. She is not in the frame of mind to be making big$$$ decisions without making big mistakes- so I've been asked to help. I'm not the right guy for this- I just don't know enough about this stuff.
I'm trying to figure out what her vehicle is worth- ballpark, so I can help her get out from underneath it, and I'm not exactly sure what a dealership would do to a person when they know they are over a barrel....so...
She bought it new-2019 F-150 4X4 Sport XLT 2.7 turbo, crew cab with the 2 rear suicide doors. Sync 3, Linex box liner. 6.5 ft box. It has 18,000km and not a scratch.( even the box doesn't have a scratch)
My opinion is that if a person has to borrow money to buy something,-they can't afford it. But, right now my opinion isn't constructive for her problem.
Your opinion on the value ?.... How does one get out from under such a thing? Trade, sell, move to Tibet?
Thanks for your input if you have any.

Off the hop I would have said 40ish.
This add shows one at the asking $58.
https://classifieds.castanet.net/detail ... t/4333321/
So methinks 52-55 would be reasonable for the market and a motivated
price to move it.
Not the speculators pie in the sky pricing.
Good luck and sorry to hear of your friends issues.

I personally would be having a stroke if I were her now....or WHEN I was signing up to be enslaved to the bank for a thing that gets me A to B when I could get A to B with a $1000 'zero social status' ride that has to be replaced every 6 months to 2 years or when it blows up. Even if I won 6/49, I wouldn't buy a new vehicle-that's just me I guess. If people didn't buy new, there would be no used for cheapos(poor people) like me.
I don't know if the bumper to bumper 7 year warranty she got with it will add any value to it. I don't know if a warranty like that is even transferable.

Whoa whoa. You cannot compare a Lariat to a Sport/XLT/XTR. Go to Ford's website and spec out that truck new - it'll come out to $45k or so.
F150's are one of those vehicles you can buy new for $35k or you can buy new for $90k depending on the options. Sport is lower optioned truck. It's one step up from "bare bones no options" while Lariat is "Most bells and whistles".
A quick search doesn't show me any comparable trucks listed with a price shown. A few "Call dealer for price" vehicles listed - may want to call a few and see what they say.
I bought a lightly used F150 XTR a few years ago with 6000km on the clock. Similar situation - very low KM's and new ones were 2 years newer (2021's are on sale now) . I chose to drive to Alberta to get it as trucks there were selling for a few thousand lower than in the Okanagan. I paid $28k. Based on my experience, If I was serious about selling it I'd start by listing it for Approx $37k. Drop the price by a couple thousand if it hasn't sold after a couple of months.

Comes out at approx $30k. Personally I think that's a little low.

My Wife's suggestion (Retired Banker) would be for her to talk to her bank first.oldtrucker wrote:I'm not really into vehicle buying and selling,so I was wondering what some of you might think on this.

She would also have the option of just giving the keys to the bank and walking away from it. If she still owes more than it's worth selling then that's an option too.

^^^Short sentence- but it speaks volumes on peoples mindsets on money and debt these days. People sign up for 'get now -pay later'. Big time pay later. I guess my attitude on debt is so last century.Bsuds wrote: If she still owes more than it's worth

42yo - I could afford to buy a new vehicle outright but chose to buy "gently used" instead. Better to save those funds if I hope to retire some day. Have never owned a brand new vehicle and at this rate - It may never happen.

^^^ I made that new car mistake once myself tyler. I'll never make it again. Still stings from 30plus years ago
I always buy 'very used' now. It's a bit of a gamble for older stuff but if it costs less than 2k and it lasts me 2 years- I'm happy. I have no need to have anything expensive. May not be a chic magnet, but if shtf I'm not having a stoke with stress-like my friend is right now.
