Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Riding the streetcar on Queen Street West near Ossington Avenue, it's impossible not to notice the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

Over the years, the site has witnessed evolving modes of psychiatric treatment, some of which eventually came to be questionable, dating back to 1850.

According to the Toronto Public Library, the Provincial Lunatic Asylum (as it was then known) at 999 Queen West was the first institution in the province to care for the mentally ill.

^^^Didn't matter what the official name was, everyone in Toronto referred to it as 999 Queen Street.

Funny store about that place ... had to send a serviceman for some repairs. He was in the elevator heading to the basement when a female patient got on, fondled his tush, decided her and Al were best buddies and he would be driving her to Russia.

Poor guy took off like a bat out of hell when the doors opened and told me never to send him there again. Called hospital admin and explained what happened. Sent another service guy and the hospital had someone escort him to the section needing repairs, wait until he was finished and escort him upstairs.

great idea, my grandmother had one of those (have not a clue where it is now though) but back in the early 60s my father then drafted a similar and made a kitchen-camping trunk - was a joy to use. :smt045

Milton S. Hershey owned the Lancaster Caramel Company before starting a chocolate company in Pennsylvania. In 1900, Hershey introduced the Hershey Bar, an affordable treat he named for himself.

As he shifted his focus from caramel to chocolate confections, Hershey's initial milk chocolate bar was soon accompanied by variations with almonds, peanuts (Mr. Goodbar, 1925) and rice (Krackel, 1938). For a smaller treat, Hershey put forward his Hershey's Kisses to the masses in 1907.

The US Army bought Comanche in St. Louis, Missouri in 1868 when the horse caught the attention of Captain Myles Keogh of the 7th Cavalry. He therefore bought it as his personal mount. In September 1868, when the Army fought with the Natives on the plains of Kansas, Comanche was wounded. His wounds were found only after returning to camp. Keogh admired the horse’s courage, and after that, he gave him the name Comanche.

In June 1876, all but Comanche were killed in the battle of Little Big Horn. The horse received seven bullet wounds, had arrows sticking out of him, and lost a lot of blood, but survived.
Comanche passed away in 1890, one of only two horses, the other being Sergeant Reckless, to receive full military honors. We thank you for your service, Comanche!

Another one they liked to be kept under the radar was Penetanguishene Mental Health Centre Oak Ridge which opened in 1933.

And the Penetanguishene Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is facing a class-action lawsuit in excess of $200 million over its use of solitary confinement, segregation and seclusion.

The Abbey Church of Sainte-Foy in Conques, France, was a popular stop for pilgrims traveling the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela, in what is now Spain. The main draw for medieval pilgrims at Conques were the remains of Sainte-Foy, a young woman martyred during the fourth century. The relics of Sainte-Foy arrived in Conques through theft in 866. After unsuccessful attempts to acquire the relics of Saint Vincent of Saragossa and then the relics of St. Vincent Pompejac in Agen, the abbey authorities set their sights on the relics of Sainte-Foy at the ancient St. Faith's Church, Sélestat. The Conques abbey opened a priory next to the shrine in Sélestat. A monk from Conques posed as a loyal monk in Agen for nearly a decade in order to get close enough to the relics to steal them.
