Never thought I'd hear myself say this...

Saxon did say that proper, like. :ohmygod:

Quoting a higher authority....."In the United States, the spelling aluminium is largely unknown, and the spelling aluminum predominates. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary prefers aluminum...."

Those words have been on my family crest for centuries eyepop you are quite right the translation means If God wills it or If God wishes it - God willing ...For me that means that if God wills it, whatever 'it' is will come into being

"he is a figment of imagination"

I doubt god has a physical presence much less a gender. If you believe in god he exists.

Bump.

This was the closest thread I could find to ask this question....
With all due respect to all sides.
Is God a sports fan?
I ask because I hear a lot of sports praising God for the victory, sometimes at the beginning of an event I hear prayers asking for a safe outcome of the day in hand.
It causes me to wonder, seriously, is this actually Virtue Signalling?
No replies filled with venom plz.

He already knows who will win, not much fun in that.

I think the question is about the human ego and how we imagine that the world revolves around us, (individuals).

If god was a sports fan, as mentioned above, he'd already know the outcome before the event started. He'd also have the power to cause a career ending injury, or the power to stop it. He'd have the power to cause or allow a loss to the most devout player on the field.

We do see people thanking god after a car crash that they survive, after surgeries, after sporting events, after winning awards, after anything seen as "good".

How many of the people who'd praise god for the good, will also curse god for the bad?

What I find interesting about it though is how someone will thank god after their team wins "the game". But doesn't that suggest that the players training, coaching, effort, skill, etc is all of lower importance than their god? As if their god has a bigger influence over the game than the players and coaching staff did?
Also, since they're really cutting themselves down in importance, it's odd that they'd thank their god for ensuring that they got the win, and that the other team didn't. It's as if god was shining down on just one team, and wanted the other to lose. A little self centered view on things. If the players are so insignificant in the game, then why would god choose one over the other? Why wouldn't god just not have any impact at all, just pay the ticket price and watch the game, cheering for neither team.
