People choose to post on Castanet to be humiliated, bashed, and bullied...

You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.

Begs the question, is masochism a choice?

Lots of non gay people are bullied bashed and humiliated. Many more than gays.
Again...
At what point is being homosexual factually determinable???????
Birth??
First kiss?
First gay penetration??
Closet gay uncle (aunt) sneaking into the bedroom?
Catechism?
When and how???

Let me ask you, then: When did you decide you were straight?

possibly the correct word here should be "discover" instead of "decide"..... from my own experience I haven't noticed it's something you can "decide"
For example, I discovered I was hetero in two stages. First time I was attracted to the opposite sex and reinforce when I discovered that I was slightly repulsed by the same gender as anything other than a friend.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Re: Gay rights and the church
Still no answers here as to the how's and whens of "becoming" gay...
All I know, is that, we are born male or female for a biological reason and that although penis is a versatile organ, it is primarily designed (not by me) to be inserted into a vagina for pleasure and propagation of the human species and that gay men are revealed to be not good choices for priests, scoutmasters, hockey coaches and jewel thieves etc.
Anything else is selfish masturbation.
It appears then that, gays are not an obvious, visibly distinct race of humanoid and geing gay is undeterminable from other non-gay humans other than the practice of gay lifestyle choices.

Re: Gay rights and the church
No, I can totally see how this is actually a very complicated issue.
I recently had a discussion with a friend on this subject.
I'm actually glad we were here in my home instead of meeting out somewhere for coffee as the discussion got quite heated and I'm glad we were able to debate it properly without having to worry about keeping it down.
Basically the line of conversation went like this:
Can we control who/what we're attracted to? when does that attraction cross over into deviance?
Has the definition of deviance changed over the years? (of course it has) it actually goes in cycles of completely ridged to completely lax and back again.
If we can control who/what we're attracted to (sexually) what does that mean?
and if we can't.... then what?
this topic could make a person have a rather large headache trying to puzzle it out.
We finally agreed that what happens between consenting adults would not be considered deviant behaviour to our minds.

The answer is it doesn't matter. Whether someone chooses whom they love or is born to love that person it still remains none of anyone's business how consenting adults form relationships and families.
We are all individuals and sexuality cannot be defined in the black and white terms you are seeking. Some people know their whole lives they are attracted to the same sex. Some people spend their lives with the opposite sex and then find themselves attracted to an indivdual of the opposite sex when they have never had same sex attractions before. Some people spend their whole lives denying their same sex attraction and form traditional families. We knew a friend of mine was gay since elementary school. You could just feel it in his energy. He dated girls through high school and didn't discover it for himself until he was an adult.
We are complicated creatures. There is no simple answer.
"Every dollar you spend is a vote for what you believe in."
"My country is the world, and my religion is to do good."
