You can't really be part of a discussion if you make no effort to understand what people say, and this statement shows just how little you have understood anything I have written.

Your claim to an open mind is betrayed by the fact that you haven't a clue what I have been talking about or what I believe. Is that because my writing is obscure? Not likely. More than a quarter-century as a journalist means at least that I know how to read and how to write comprehensively. You have demonstrated only an ability to misunderstand what I say and to jump to erroneous conclusions. I'm rather surprised you are so willing to repeatedly display such limitations in a public forum.

My limitations, in your mind, are only the way YOU perceive my comments towards you.

It's not my perception of your comments that reveal your limitations, it's the content of your comments, such as the one above where you claim my mind is "twisted by faith and religion". A little hard, that, considering I am of no religion and my faith is informed by my atheism. So much for your ability to understand what I write.
That is because I chose not to become engrossed in a dead topic, but still would like to inform you how blindly led you are.

"None is so blind as he who will not see" pretty much describes how badly you misjudged me.
My ability to "misunderstand and jump to erroneous conclusions" only shows that you and I disagree, not that I am in anyway misunderstanding you.

Pretty hard to maintain that fiction any more.

God dammit, has everyone turned atheist now?

Ya, I read an article once about "how would the Christians ever recognize Jesus" if he's running around being a rebel. Because back then, he was considered a rebel.

Exactly. A hippy-dippy, peace-lovin', (probably, if around here) easy rider motorcyclin', no-respectable-job-havin', no good, cult-lovin' freak!

Um, a bunch of unwashed long-haired freaks wandering around in the desert proselytizing, and saying that they've seen god?

I think they'd get jailed. Seriously. He'd look like someone that belongs at burning-man, not god on earth.

When Jesus returns he’s going to look down on us with a tear in His eye and say “Gee whiz you guys – this isn’t what I wanted”. “I asked you to worship God, not me”. “I asked you to follow my teachings, not hang replications of me being crucified on the walls of your false temples”. “I asked you to love one another, not use my name to subjugate people”.

“Man, you guys really *bleep* me off”.

When Jesus returns I am going to invite him out for beers, then look him straight in the eye and say *bleep* dude!

Why not? It's like one of those choose-your-own-adventure novels. I like the end of the story as going for beers.

You'll have to forgive the poor suckers that have been fed over 2000 years of propaganda, for they know not what they do.

T_C_S80: I'm sure if you asked that question, he'd say "I dunno man? Things were fine when I left!"

:coffeecanuck: Sure things were fine. His own mother would have been stoned to death if she had been found pregnant outside of marriage. She and Joseph had to leave their village after the birth to do what? Trapze around Egypt? Why? Because in their own village people would be adding up the wedding day and the birth day and figuring it didn't add up. Quickly. Maybe that's why they left.

And we know zilch of Jesus's early life, which from his teachings sounds like he was in India or thereabouts early on.

It is true, QK, that we know very little about Jesus' life until he was about 31 years old, but why do you say he was in India? I have never heard this before.
