Although I agree it was most likely one of the recalcitrant bus drivers, who's to say some atheists didn't steal the signs to draw more attention to the campaign? After all we have basically no evidence so who stole it is entirely conjecture at this point.

It was stolen from a secure yard so the idea it was a driver or other employee who disagreed with the signs running seems more credible

Regarding the silence of the religious community on the theft, churchs already condemn theft and going out of their way to make some kinda public condemnation about one particular theft of some particular signs that were likely only appealing to a select number of a small percentage of people whose opinion of the church is likely dismal at best seems like an excercise in futility.

They should be clear they don't condone this kind of theft. Makes for better PR for them

Besides, this publicity is probably the best they've had yet...

As I said I agree it was most likely a bus driver but it could just as easily be an atheist bus driver who wanted to draw attention to the campaign, accuse the religious bus drivers or hope they'd be fired, give atheists some solidarity over a perceived common enemy, make religious people look bad, etc.

I suspect they figure the ten commandments are quite clear.

yeah - and Christians killed Christ and God was really the snake

If religions kept out of public forums like advertising, politics and schools then you would probably never hear a peep out of an Atheist. if you can dish it you should be able to take it :skippingsheep:

We all know that those rules are flexible. Anything can be justified, especially if one is self-righteously 'fighting for god".

That's funny. I thought that Stalin abolished religion to start a cult of personality, not because he was an atheist. From his point of view the church took power away from him, therefore had to be suppressed. 'The State' was 'god'.

No - if your God had even an ounce of wisdom or forethought when "creating" man kind People wouldn't be so screwed up. You can't blame Atheists for your gods failings.

As a person who doesn't believe in God and has no affiliation with any organization - i blame lack of intelligence, reasoning and critical thought for why people are screwed up. Unfortunately for organized religion it is required to give up at least one of those traits to be part of "the club".

To even exist in our society you would have to turn your cheek to several of the teachings of Jesus - i don't think many christians see the hypocrisy

Well Corneliousrooster there is your problem!

What makes you an atheist?

You had some problems when you were growing up? That caused you to rebel? (If your that old?)

People screwed themselves up. Yes I can blame a lot on you atheist's, green's and new ager's. Just look how screwed up you have made the world so far.

The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree......

yeah - i am the one with problems for NOT using this fable as a moral compass for my life. and strangely i have somehow managed to be in a committed monogamous relationship for almost 20 years and avoided a criminal record. Shouldn't I just be rampant with evil by now? i am godless afterall.....

averagejoe wrote:You had some problems when you were growing up? That caused you to rebel?

What does having problems (or not) and not believing in God have to do with each other? Kids with no problems believe in God because they have no problems? : :spinball: in my experience it tends to be the ones with the biggest problems that have the greatest faith.....

Not believing in god is "rebelling"? hmm.... i don't think God exists so to whom am i rebelling against?

i return the question as to why the existence of God is necessary for your life? and why do you care if people do not share the same perceived necessity? Are Muslims and Jews on the same footing as atheists as they believe in a different God than you? you do realize that the majority of the people on this planet do not believe in your god? Is everyone rebelling? or is everyone just dumb?

So if everyone believed in god, didn't vote 'green' or care about their environment, and don't fall for the 2012 crystal powered hippy doompocalypse then everything would be alright? And what god-form should everyone believe in? If only I would have known happiness was so easy.
