Have you ever seen evidence of an evil spirit?

Is there a god? What is the meaning of life?

Have you ever seen evidence of an evil spirit?

Post by Thinktank »

Never mind worrying if there is a hell or not.

Doesn't it make more sense to first decide whether evil spirits exist or not.

The bible talks about evil spirits. Either they exist or they don't exist.
If evil spirits exist, you would be a fool to ignore them.

Have you ever seen an evil spirit? Why doesn't anyone ever talk about it?

People all over the world believe in these things. I know Muslims do - they call
them jinns. Chinese are always talking about ghosts. Mexico even has a day
for ghosts. Here in canada, we scare the hell out of children with Haloween, and
try our best to destroy their teeth by marketing $billions of dollars worth of tooth rotting
candy on Oct. 31, but still - no one ever mentions evil spirits very often.
Do they exist or not?

It's not so easy to reduce these things to yes or no in a sense that applies to everyone. Context is important. I would say that Santa Claus exists as an imaginary focal point for the human closeness and charity that abounds at Christmas time, but the thought of a magical elf slipping down my chimney is fiction at best. I would say that evil spirits exist in the context of whatever it is that drives the Olsens and Mansons of the world, but I have a little difficulty taking the thought of vaporous apparitions lurking in shadows seriously.
When asked what he thought of Western civilization, Mahatma Ghandi replied "I think it would be a very good idea."

Evil spirits are with everyone, not just the Charles Mansons of the world.
but the problem, is no one notices it, until these spirits go berzerk - then
people feel real bad. But until a disaster happens, it's just about impossible to persuade
someone it's in his best interest to get rid of the evil suckers.

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. 10And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. 11Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. 12And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. 13And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

Spirits take on the forms that are acceptable to the believer. Some folk don't believe in evil spirits and will probably never encounter one. Some people believe in angels, some in animal spirits and still others in aliens. Spirit will appear to them in forms that they are willing to accept.

Now if you don't believe in evil spirits, you have not been paying attention to politics.
Trying to get spiritual nourishment from a two thousand year old book is like trying to suck milk from the breast of a woman who has been dead that long.
