Question.

Post by I Think »

OK, so we are told that god is sitting up in heaven, running the universe(s)
We are also told that he has a son Jesus- (must be hispanic).
So if god is busy running the universe(s),
what is jesus doing - I mean right now - today?
We're lost but we're making good time.

Silly you ... God's not "running" the universe(s) ... the religions will tell you that - he's letting us all make our own mistakes. God operates a "free will" society, they say. What he IS doing is counting all his money from all the book sales and tithing and passing the plate stuff. He has stacks and stacks and stacks of it up there!

Jesus?? Oh him ... he's changing his clothes a gazillion times trying to make up his mind what to wear for his second coming.

Or may be he became an accountant. After all, he's pretty good with numbers. Managed to feed thousands with a handful of breads and fish.

Ok..just so we're clear. I am not a practicing Anglican, but I was born and baptized as such. I have Catholics, Christians, Protestants and Jehovahs in my family and many of my friends practice some form of religion. I don't question their beliefs nor do I make fun of them. However I have to wonder why so many people think its amusing to poke fun at religious people. I mean, I've seen people on here that are really ignorant about it.

I've seen people go onto a religious thread just to make fun of someone. Doesn't that just prove the point that some of them try to make that those who don't believe are ignorant. I dunno..just sayin.

To answer your question. If the bible is correct and God is "sitting there running the universe" as Nibs put it. Then likely Jesus would be awaiting his second coming would he not. Unless you're Christian..then he has risen forever and he's likely just chillin and watching us down here on earth screw it up. However if you're Jehovah then he's just dead.

Just to clarify about Jehovah's Witnesses:
A - Jehovah is the name of God. The members of a congregation are Bill or Sally or something. Jehovah is who they worship.
B - Jehovah's witnesses do believe Jesus rose and celebrate this every year at "Memorial" which bounces around the calendar the way Easter does.

Actually I am well aware that Jehovah is the name of God. Remember I said that I have family members that are Jehovah's Witness. I grew up listening to them read Watchtower. Which leads me to my next comment.
According to Jehovahs Witness; Jesus, the man, is actually dead. He was the person born of Mary. However, Gods(Jehovahs) son(in heaven) was actually the Archangel Micheal. It is actually Micheal, the Archangel who rose from the dead.

Edit: It's a bit more complicated than that tho...God actually transferred Micheals life force into Jesus the man, born of Mary. When Jesus died, God was able to re-create Micheal....That is if you believe in the teachings of the watchtower society.

I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness by my mother until the age of 14. I've never, ever heard anything even close to this.

Really. That's odd. I took this directly from Watchtower.

This belief began early in the Watchtower’s history as Charles Russell, the first president of the Society, wrote in Studies in the Scriptures, vol.5, 1899, p.454, “....the man Jesus is dead, forever dead....”.

In particular, the Watchtower teaches that before the man Jesus existed here on earth, Michael the Archangel was the Son of God in heaven. In order to redeem mankind from their sins, it was necessary for Michael to will himself out of existence, or annihilate himself, then Jehovah could transfer his life force to the womb of the Virgin Mary. The person who was born on earth, as a result of this, was a brand new creation- the man, Jesus. The Society further teaches that after the man, Jesus, died and was buried, his body was annihilated by Jehovah God. Then Jehovah re-created Michael the Archangel, and it was, in fact, Michael who rose from the dead as an invisible spirit creature, not the man, Jesus.

If you're uncle is an Elder I have no doubt he took the time to teach at every opportunity he saw.
To me, that particular teaching seems a little convoluted. Maybe I have heard it, but it's not something that was ever stressed, since it's really not the point of the story.
What I do remember is Jesus went into the tomb and when they checked it he was gone, then his "spirit" made a few visits to some people and then he was gone.
