If you're confident with the concept of god before anything else then you should be able to ask the question where it came from. The logical answer is the same as that for matter: either it always existed or it came out of nothing.
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.

Nice bit of selective quoting, there captain. Gravity is not a theory. It is tangible and demonstrable. We just don't really understand how it works. What I find interesting is that there really is no matter in the holographic universe. Perhaps that is why nothing flies away. To me, physical reality is a theory that may be disproved in the not so distant future and then gravity will end up just being a product of our belief in physicality. I will also go out on a limb and say that science is just as much a religion to many as any other. One thing I am pretty sure of, is that we are living in a lie; a reality that has been pulled over our eyes to blind us from the truth.
Trying to get spiritual nourishment from a two thousand year old book is like trying to suck milk from the breast of a woman who has been dead that long.

Exactly. Whether the universe or God, there is no other known alternative, and both defy any logic or science so I guess everyone could agree they believe in something that defies both logic and science.
They say you can't believe everything they say.

So I guess if something defies science then it isn't very scientific, now is it.

I think the problem, cliffy, is that you don't understand the difference between "facts" and "theories" in scientific vernacular.
A fact is not a certainty, but something that is held to be true by repeated confirmation of the occurence or process to which they refer. Facts refer to events that happen or state of being of things and can be verified, directly witnessed, or proven through repeated experimentation.
ie., Gravity. If you step off the bridge, you will drop.
Theories attempt to explain why those things happen. They are not guesses, but rather a collection of results of the testing of facts and are designed to grow as further tests are performed.
Evolution (the appearance of new species) has been observed in the fossil record. Biologists have decoded the mystery that is DNA and are able to show common ancestry among all species of life on earth.
How that happens? Why that happens? That's the theory of evolution.
If you choose to ignore all that, that's entirely up to you. Just don't try stepping off the bridge and floating away. Apparently all mass has a gravitational pull that's proportional to the mass in question. Since the earth has far more mass than you, you'll simply fall. At least - that's the theory.
I'd like to change your mind, but I don't have a fresh diaper.
